Repacing iPod 4gen LCD Screen

I have read all the info on replacing the lcd screen but I'm unsure on how to put it all back together. The screen needs to be heated to remove is their a sealant needed to re-seal screen to body of the iPod 4gen?

Sorry Chris I should have been a bit clearer my son dropped it and the glass is shattered. I ordered a new screen & LCD but don't know what type of glue to use when putting it back together. \I have seen the double sided tape online but haven't seen any video's on how to reassemble the iPod?

Tod Brown,

Thanks Chris what is the name of the glue you use in the needle?

Just some instant bonding adhesive from radioshack, a little goes a long way and if you get it on the case or screen it is difficult to get off - so be careful!

If just your LCD went bad there may be some larger issues at hand but they are one singular unit and can not be separated. As for the adhesive it is best removed completely and a new layer applied. Remain conscious of the antennae in the upper-left hand corner (facing front) and the speaker in the lower left - both need to be carefully separated and can be a bit fragile. Heat is best applied on top then working your way down - it does not take long at all to melt/distort the home button.

Also take note in that the aluminum backing did not bend on impact, it is also quite fragile and can need replacing almost as frequent as the digitizer.

Personally I cut 3M 300LSE to size but Google will bring you to some pre-cut double-sided adhesives. Remember to test fit and make sure the digitzer cable is folded out of the way and your screen is fitting flush. If it is just shy of sitting correctly, locate places with decent surface and using a needle (yes, syringe) of bonding adhesive place a very tiny amount and keep pressure on the back case with the face down, or leave a book on it.

See if those guides below the ipod picture on the right will help you out...iPod Touch 4th Generation

Hi Tod, reverse the disassembly! Once you plug in the display from underneath the logic board, re-wrap it in the copper tape that should still be presnt, double check to make sure the rear facing camera is did not become unattached and start screwing it back together!

The most important part of these repairs is probably how you lay out your workspace, either draw yourself a diagram with screw locations or print out images from the guide and place your screws where they came on.
