Speakers are not working, could they be blown?

Speakers stopped working. I have had people look at it and they think the speakers may be blown. Headphones sound great. When I click on mixer and sounds, everything looks good.

Can the speakers be replaced? If so, where do I buy them? What's the cost and how do I replace them exactly?

Thanks,

Ross

Service manual page 5-30 is the one of interest to you. Joel is absolutely right with the assembly part number being 431447-001

The speakers can definitely be replaced and it is fairly easy to do it too. Before you replace the speakers you need to make sure they are the right model before you purchase a new bar. There are a total of 8 screws you have to deal with. Six are right below the battery and once all six silver screws are removed you can take off the function switch cover. There are clips lining the back of it and two in the front where it connects to the palm rest. Lift from the side back of the cover and pull it forward. Make sure not to rip it off as there are 2 cables connected to this part. Once its out you can see the speakers. There should be 2 screw connecting the speakers to the casing. Once removed you can take the speakers out and there should be a model number on them. It will look something like 431447-001. Once you get that model number just order the speakers and pop them in and you should be good to go. Parts like that do not go bad too often and are fairly cheap to purchase so Ebay is a good place to check out for replacements. Check out Speakers for an easy link for purchase if you are feeling lazy.

Hello Ross, have you done any investigations to see if the fault is caused by software? Usually, if the speakers have 'blown' they would just be of poor quality, you would still hear some audio. Has any liquids been exposed to the speaker area?

Personally I would try to boot to a known working Operating System before purchasing any parts, you can download an Ubuntu Live disc from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/do... , burn this to a disc and boot to it. Make sure you run it as a Live disc and not install. Then try to play some audio to see if your speakers are now working. A quicker test is creating a new user profile if using Windows and testing in there, but there is still a chance it could be software related.

Hopefully this will help you diagnose the fault a little further,

Wes

It might be the power connector/power button ribbon connector...take off quick launch button panel detach ribbon cable by unlocking the connector tightening clasp be careful not to break ribbon cable...put it back in and wiggle it around abit see if speakers work if not go to ebay and search for quick launch button panel find one with speakers...perhaps 20 to 30 dollars.

Yes. I have this problem too, but there is a chance that the speakers aren’t blown, but you need to install the sound card. Did you blast loud music before this happened?
