Just replaced the 250G hard drive and 1 of the 2G Ram chips and after using it for a day, the system shut itself off. When I tried to re-boot, the screen flashes white and then goes completely black. I've tried restarting it a few times but that's all it does. Is there anything else I can try?

Follow the linked Apple guide. Then I would remove the new stick of ram and see if it boots. If that doesn't work I would replace the hard drive with the original and see if that allowed the computer to boot. Good luck.
