Phone won't charge unless I force it in a certain spot

Recently, I have found that in order for my phone to charge, I have to directly force the cable inside, or to a certain angle for it to charge, which most of the time doesn't last long. I'm not too sure whether or not there's a fault at the charging port, as I have tried 2 different cables, and the problem still persists.

I have tried looking at other posts, which don't directly answer my question as there is no dust/lint to be found clogged inside.

Please let me know if there is something I can do to fix this, otherwise I'll pay a visit to my local store to sought the problem. (I'm guessing it has to do with my charging port)

Thanks.

Hi @xyzzy ,

The USB port may have come loose from the daughterboard and is not making a good connection.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Samsung Galaxy S5 Micro-USB Port Daughterboard Replacement guide which shows how to access the charging assembly board so that you can see if this is the case.

If it is loose then as it is an SMD (surface mounted device) type component, you’ll need SMD soldering tools and expertise to reconnect the connector onto the board.

You could also simply replace the [[ invalid parts link ]] - (select Charger boards link left side of page - example only to give an idea of the cost of part) or search online for Samsung Galaxy S5 (insert your particular model number) USB daughterboard assembly part for suppliers that may suit you better.

If you find this too daunting, contact a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service and ask for a quote to repair the port.

Alternatively if you have no need to access the phone via the USB port, you could opt for Qi wireless charging the phone. Again search for suitable suppliers for this part.

Hopefully this is of some help.
