GPS not working or not accurate

Hi guys,

anyone facing the same issue? when open google map it can locate the initial location. but once started the navigation it will not move / detect the location, or keep detecting inaccurate location like around 10-50m away from current location. become so laggy in detecting location and keep rerouting due to inaccuracy of location.

but once in a blue moon it will be back to normal and function like normal again.

I have exactly the same problem. I think it started after upgrading from Android 6.0 to 7 but i am not sure. In the past was working good all the time but now it's really random

I have this problem with my old HuaWei Mate S…. thinking of buying a new phone …. just whether I should choose Hua Wei again. I wonder if only Hua Wei phones have this problem.

I tried it without the battery cover and it works normally. It is like the cover acting like a shield and reduces the signal. I drove with my car for about 10 kilometres having the GPS Test app running, it never lost signal, had always in view 10 - 14 satellites and in use more than 10. I will test it more to find the solution because when i put the battery cover back in place i don’t have gps as every 2 meters it looses the signal.

Update (02/03/2019)

After some trial and error i found out that the pin that makes contact with the back cover and works as an antenna is the one which is at the top left corner as you look it from the back with the case open. I put a piece of aluminum foil at the contact point and now at last it works properly. Another idea which i didn’t try was to apply some solder with a soldering gun to make the contact point better. If you want to press the screen without opening it as it is mentioned before, you have to press the top right corner as you look it at the front side in order to force it to make good contact. I bought mine with a cracked screen and changed it myself, i didn’t test the gps before the repair and i tried to use it a long after i had fixed it and found out that there was some kind of problem. Also i applied three layers of adhesive tape on the vibrator motor because after i opened it it didn’t also touched the back cover as it should and it didn’t vibrate on touch. Now everything works fine, i think the problem is the poor design of the back cover and the way it makes contact with the internal parts.

Update (02/04/2019)

Update: I compared it side by side with a Samsung J5 2016, Samsung had a lot stronger signal, locked instantly and always had more satellites in use. I ordered copper adhesive tape double side conductive and when i get it i will experiment if i can build an internal antenna in the back cover.

Anyway the gps is at least functional now and i can use it. Before it was not.

OMG, pressing the top right corner actually works! I was using GPS Toolbox and had 0 signal from all the satellites until i did this, it locked the signal instantly!

I also pressed the top right corner of my Huawei EVA-P09 and it fixed the GPS malfunction. I guess something got misplaced after a fall. Now it is normal and I get 3D fix.

Hello, I had the same problem. After replacing battery the GPS worked horribly. I removed back cover again, and only erected the tiny pins on the motherboard so that they can better touch the metal tiny sheets on the back cover. I did it manually with a small screwdriver. Now everything is perfect, GPS works excellent!!!

Hi,

I had this problem and look for a 're-calibration' solution.

I ended up downloading 2 different apps from the Play Store.

1. GPS Fix/Optimizer

2. GPSFix

I ran both.

My phone is back working again.

Worth a try.

i runned both apps and they seem to have fix my problem. I still have to monitor my gps for some days to know for sure. So far so good. Thanks Steve Endor.

i can fix gps problem on p9

it is not a software problem.

but i think everybody can solve it.

  1. download gps test app. (or any app that shows gps signal power)
  2. open the gps app and monitor signal power
  3. smash any edge of p9 with palm.
  4. monitor gps signal again.
  5. the signal power will growing up soon.

You are right somehow! I had a P9 with very weak gps signal and in the end Huawei accepted to replace my mainboard and it worked for some weeks and after that problems started again. The problem is the gps antenna connector wich connects the mainboard to the back metal case wich contains antenna. I opened the phone case and i inserted a piece of metla sheet in between connector and case and now is ok. Anyway, the antenna is still week by design because with phone open i connected a 10cm wire as an antenna and the gps signal was so strong. This test showed me very clear that this smartphone has a taoo small gps antenna

Goodmorning, I share my experience.

I had the problem of poor and unstable fix gps.

On road, beetwen high building, under trees but on open roads too, my P9 plus (VIE-L09 firmware c432B387) doesn't fix satellites.

I read yours experiences and I opened the device and I cleaned the pins sited on the upper left corner (which has contact with the metal plate on the gps antenna) with a cotton swab and simple liquid for clean glass.

I tested the fix disabling all connections, activating AEREO modality and setting "only GPS" in the GPS searching mode.

Magically, the fix gps is almost instantaneous.

At moment of test, I was on balcony on second floor with other two floor upper me and beetwen other buildings.

This is happening because the contact between mainboard GPS and antenna located in the back cover is not good.

What I did was to clean very well the contact area, to try to bent a little more outside the GPS antena contact and to add a little aluminum foil in between the mainboard and back cover to ensure a good contact.

I had also another idea in my mind, to install a small piece of wire inside to work like as GPS antenna and to be connected directly to the mainboard to be sure not other loose contacts is ruining the GPS signal

So Adrian which pin exactly is the gps pin? I have already tried to put a piece of aluminum foil at the pin which is under the vibrator motor at the right corner as you look it open from the back, and it made no difference. I thought that maybe it is one of the pins that are on the mainboard at the top but i am not sure which one. With the back open the gps works fine and a piece of wire no matter where i connect it, makes no difference.

I had this problem with the GPS being inaccurate and rerouting me. I got apps to solve the problem and and then later my camera would only be able to take one photo and then power the phone off. I fixed both problems when I replaced the battery.

I had the same GPS problem with a Huawei p8 lite (2015) coupled with bad connection after I tryed to fix my broken screen buying a low quality frame + lcd. I solved mounting back all the components on the old frame after replacing the broken lcd with the good one.
