Why does my iPhone say searching or no service?

So a few weeks ago my phone just randomly lost signal and says searching or no service. I rested network settings and it worked for but a bit but I’ve taken the SIM card out, Reset setting, airplane mode, just about everything. Still doesn’t work, when I try to reset the network settings again I click reset and it will just sit there frozen I can exit out of the app but the phone doesn’t reboot. Everyone in my family still have data and Lte tho, if you know how to fix this please let me know!

You may try these methods:

Method 1: Check your coverage area.

Method 2: Try to restart your iPhone.

Method 3: Check for a Carrier Settings update.

Method 4: Simply take out the SIM card and put it back in later.

Method 6: Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.

Method 7: Contact your carrier.

@jpatrick15 there is a manufacturing defect in the iPhone 7. Apple will fix the "No Service" for free. See if you are covered.

I just read Apple is going to fix or reimburse anyone with the IPhone 7 that had that issue. Thank you.

If you have the right model. Apparently there are different model iPhone 7’s. I’m having the same exact problem but they told me I don’t have the model 7 that’s doing it.

por

I don’t have the iPhone 7 I phone the IPhone 6 Plus and it’s dojng the same thing

I had my screen replaced, it is ineligible for the repair now, can I do the repair on my own?

por

Bull crap on the fix. I took mine in for this issue and bleach head 20 something dude hooked it up to an iPod and ran a program on it. The diagnostic test said my modem was good. They walked away and said you should have bought AppleCare , sorry can’t help you. Guess what? It still doesn’t work. They could not tell me why.

I have an iphone 5 and about a week ago, it lost cellular connection and kept "searching". I did not drop the phone or anything that would cause it to stop working. I tried all of the potential fixes that apple recommends short of a factory reset. I even took it to a Verizon store and they tried a different sim card and many of the things I already tried with no luck. They pretty much told me to up-grade to solve the issue. I decided to make sure it was backed up and take the phone apart. About a year ago, I bought a battery replacement kit online, so I had the suction cup and all of the tools to take the phone apart. While the screen was removed, I unhooked the battery and the cellular antenna and then plugged them back in a few minutes later and reassembled. When I turned the phone back on, I now have cellular connection. I don't know if it would work on your phone, but it might be worth a try. It saved me from a factory reset and/or replacing the phone. Good luck!

Ultra_Flight, I did the same thing at your suggestion. I'm not a repair person at all, but I had ordered a kit to replace my cracked iPhone 6 screen and saved the tools. I used this YouTube video as a guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqbZRwuv... and opened it up. (I skipped all the removal of the GPS/Wifi area at the top. I only removed the metal covering to separate the screen and the other metal covering to reveal the regular antenna. I popped the antenna connector out. SIM card out too.) I also blew on it like a video game cartridge, all over.

Closed it back up and it worked!

Verizon had told me just earlier in the day that iPhone 6 was obsolete and it was happening to every 3rd iPhone 6 customer. She was pretty mean and dismissive about it. Yet here I am with it working again....

Make sure you're running the latest iOS. I've had several customers with similar issues after some of the bug ridden iOS 11 updates. The latest should have those fixed.

Have you had any repairs/services performed on the phone at all(prior to this issue)?

por

No I haven’t had any repairs prior

por

Assuming you've verified with the carrier that a new sim won't fix it, you may only have a restore as the last option. I've had multiple customers with weird issue throughout the new updates, but they were normally resolved once the new version rolled out

I'm having the same issue. My iphone 7 keeps saying it can't get cellular service because it needs to be updated. I did the updates and it's still telling me the same thing. Other than it being a refurbished phone, I have had no repairs on it.

I paid $230 for it on Wish.com and got to use it for maybe 3 weeks. This is a bummer. I haven't tried restoring it. My last resort.

Hello,

Just yesterday my phone started doing the same thing I tried everything I knew by resetting it and turning the phone off and back on taking out my sim but nothing worked. So I called my carrier to see if the towers was down or if they could fix the problem I was on the phone for over an hour with them. So, I ended up calling apple it turns out that some of the IPhone 7 that has failed on the main logic board. So they told they told me they would replace my phone free of charge. I would give apple a call as soon as possible so they can fix it. These are the model numbers that seem to be having this problem. I hoped this helped you.

Model number Country/Region

A1660, A1780 China

A1660 Hong Kong Macao U.S. (includes Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands)

A1779 Japan

This seems to be a common problem. I tried all the basic software fixes like restarting the phone, resetting the network settings and even completely erasing the phone. Blowing on the SIM card and slot, even dropping the phone which seemed silly but nothing was working. Then I came across one post that turned out to fix my problem. Hold down the home button and the power button at the same time until the phone shuts off. Continue holding both buttons until the phone restarts and shuts off once more. Then let off the buttons. Wait long enough to be sure the iPhone shut off completely and then just turn back on. This fixed my iPhone 6 Plus for good. Good luck.

Same problem. Cellular network is « error ». Gives me a notification that to call or receive call I have to update. So I updated to latest iOS 13.6 and still become no service. I Got angry and threw it Into the cupboard.

Two days later the battery had drained so I charged it to full and when I opened it, it worked until someone called me and stoped midway between our calls and become no service again. So I put it to airplane mode again, drained the battery, left it the whole day then charged it the whole night While off and in the morning it was working. Again someone called me and stoped midway through the call and become no service. So I concluded that someone calling me is the problem since I was calling people and nothing was happening.

conclusion: I removed my SIM card and put in another which no one has my number and use it for cellular data. My Original SIM card Is in another phone that I use for calling only.
