Touchscreen/Digitizer connector defect, internal issue

Hi,

My friend has dropped his phone, so I offered to replace his screen.

After replacing the screen the touchscreen/digitizer wasn't working (not responding at all), so I tried another screen and I had the same problem. Even when putting on the old cracked screen.

I tried to remove the protective sticker around the connectors, because I read that replacement screens might have bigger connectors on the flex cable. That didn't help.

After inspecting the connector up close it doesn't look broken in any way. I'm thinking about trying to clean it with isopropyl alcohol, but I don't know if it's going to work.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I would be glad to hear them.

Hi Julian,

In regards to the replacement screen, is everything assembled correctly? Did you buy a display assembly or did you just get the LCD in which case you must transfer the front facing camera and the metal back piece of the digitizer?

Did you keep track of which screws go where when replacing the aluminum cover that goes over the display cables? If you mix those up there is a possibility for a screw to go through the logic board and cause issues.

Before removing more components I would check the following:

The replacement LCD is fully assembled, check the ribbon cables for wear or tears.

Check the screws to make sure they have been ordered correctly.

Once the screen is replaced, make sure to do a full restart (Lock button and home button held down).

Hi outofajam, thanks for your response.

I don't believe I mixed up any screws. I just bought the LCD and put all the parts from the old display on there. I even reapplied the metal back piece, because I thought I may have had misplaced it. None of it helped though. I'm starting to think it's an issue with the digitizer chip which is probably going to make it pretty hard to repair, since I don't have any experience with soldering.
