screen is very dim.
Help! Screen comes up dim and unreadable. Device plays fine. Any ideas?

When you selected your model, you selected the iPod original form factor, rather than the 1st gen iPod. Do you truly have a 1st Generation iPod? If you are unsure, you can use ID your iPod to determine it. It's possible that a replacement display is easy to purchase, if you have an older version of the Original form factor.

I doubt you'd be able to get a new LCD anywhere these days, and the dim screen is often an effect of a bad logic board, you'll either have to replace the unit or only use it during the day.

In my opinion it's unlikely to be a logic board problem if the iPod plays but the screen is dim.
rather I would say since this is an old iPod, the LCD display or the backlight might be dying with age. you CAN find 1st gen iPod replacement LCD screens, for example from this vendor
