the outside reading in F is way to high I removed the batteries hit the buttons and it worked for one day?

I stopped after Mud daubers deposited between the dial and face & also on the back mechanism. I cleaned every speck off, but the dial isn't accurate at the high and low temperatures. The recording range is limited.
