speakers won't put out any sound
Why does it display Headphones on screen when I try to adjust volume and no sound comes from speaker?

Get a pin or something like that and give the headphone jack a good clean out.
They gather fluff up there and it could be causing the problem.
If that doesn't work then it would need replacing.
Not a massive job so it should be a cheap repair at a local shop if you aren't confident enough to do it.

Are you referring to the built in speaker or did you connect an external speaker to the iphone? Then headphone icon would indicate your have a plug in the headphone connector - but what is connected? Is it a powered speaker, does it have a volume control? Does the phone normally work as a phone?
