Red dot with no red ring lights

When I turn on my XBox 360 (newer version) the green light in the middle of the circle comes on for about 5 seconds then turns red. There are NO red ring lights around the edge of the silver button, ONLY the red dot in the middle. I took the hard drive out and put it back in, that did nothing. The power supply has a green light. I also tried two other HDMI cables and still nothing. Does anyone know what the red dot without any red ring lights means?

Having this exact same issue, green light on the power supply and everything. Taking out and trying to remove dust from the HDD didn't work, either.

Apparently when it is red you can hold down the sync button and press the DVD drive eject 4 times. Each time you will get a number (with four lights = '0', one light = '1', two lights = '2', and three lights = '3' ), and that number is an error code you can use to figure out what more specifically is going wrong with the Xbox.

Mine was 0110, which apparently means it's probably an issue with RAM needing to be reflowed.

I tried the Hard Drive trick, still red dot. I bought a new power supply, still the red dot, I tried a different outlet, still red dot. I tried a different HDMI cable, still the red dot.

So when the hard drive is removed, and you try to power up the unit, it still just gives the red dot? I would say you probably need to take it apart, if you feel up to it. There are numerous guides on how to take it apart, and the link below mentions some options as to the problem and solution. It mentions the need to reset the motherboard by unplugging the fan and letting it overheat, after you have cleaned up and replaced the thermal paste on the heat sink. If that doesn't work, then I would lean toward what @oldturkey03 said about it possibly being a faulty optical drive. I have read several posts on other sites saying you can just replace the DVD drive, and many other posts saying that the motherboard is essentially paired to the drive, so you have to replace both.

The dot just doesn't do. I tried all the methods ever possible to fix the RED DOT...... I even talked to an ambassador of Xbox live. Still no clue. Instead my Xbox I constantly giving out heat but there is STILL THE RED DOT

You took out the hard drive but you need to gently bang it on something .

there's probably dust in it it works for me.

I have the exact same problem, it happened once and I took out the hdmi port out and it was able to stay with a green light. After some time letting it on, I placed the hdmi port and I could play just fine. It happened to me again today and I’ve tried other things to do and also what I did last time but it isn’t working, I just hope this suggestion can help a little like it did to me once
