Tried 15 screens, why does ONLY the previous screen work?

Hi,

I have a really strange problem. In may 2016 I got an iPhone 6 for repair. I used either a screen my supplier claims to be original, or a A+ refurbished screen with used, but original LCD and digitizer. Now, january 2017, I've got the phone for repair again.

I've tried 15 screens of this kind from different batches:

  1. A+ (original LCD and digitizer)
  2. New, original (according to the supplier) screens
  3. Tianma
  4. Shenchao
  5. Swaped screen with other iPhone 6
  6. I've even tried a screen I know is from around the time for the last repair.

But all of them fails on this phone. I either get a black screen with stripes, or half of the backlight is missing. All the screens works perfectly on other iPhone 6. The ONLY screen the phone would accept is the shattered screen from the repair in may 2016.

Any suggestions?

I've suggested to send the screen for glass replacement, to get the same screen with a new glass, but it would take some time and money to send it to china and back.

I ran into this issue before. Try cleaning the connectors and the board with isopropyl (99% if you have it) and blowing the board with an air hose. Could be debris stuck in the board and usually that helps.

As said above though, examine the connection througholy to see if anything is damaged.

On the very rare chance, it could be the one phone that doesn't work with after market screens. I've seen that before. VERY RARE but it can happen.

But it doesn't accept original screen either.

I've tried to clean with electronics cleaner with no success. Couldn't see any damage or short circiut on the plugs either. (I've experienced problems before if a really small metal piece has found its way into the connector and shortcuted two pins)

I would just say do a glass-only repair on the original screen if the lcd and touch is ok.

apologize to customer then, refund them, and put their old screen back on. If you only have a magnifier and not a microscope you might not be able to solve this problem. At least you can come out of it without a negative review against your store.

I have access to a good microscope, and I have great soldering skills. I just haven't bought my own since I anyways would prefer to use the $18 000 microscope at my daytime work. :-)

have you been able to try another broken glass but 100% original screen? sounds crazy since so many don't work but have you checked the flex connectors on the replacement screens?

Yes, but it doesn't work.

I've checked the connectors closely with magnifier, both on the mainboard and on the replacement screens.
