New HD, changed to a new HD

Turn on my MacBook I got the icon with the folder and question mark in it blinking. Everywhere I read and when called apple pointed that I needed a new HD. Last night bought a new one and changed it. When booted same problem.

I tried the command +r and install OS. When it tells me to pick HD it doesn't show me any. My computer is not recognizing that there is a HD.

Please help me any other ideas.

Thanks

There are rumors that Apple will now replace it for free on the 2012 model, but it has not been officially announced. If you have and Apple store close or an ASP you might call and ask, @danj

It's always good to go have a couple of beers with the local ASP head tech and talk shop.

We buy our 15" MBP systems used! As the newer retina systems don't meet our needs. So I can't comment if Apple is offering free cables (its about time if they are). We just replace them as part as our prep with anything that comes in.

@Mayer - If it's a she, she might prefer wine or a cooler ;-}

Your new HDD doesn't have an os on it, you need to insert a macos install DVD/usb drive and hold option while booting up to install it.
