Craftsman LT1500 riding mower engine won't start

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM_ek_BP...

Something is spinning but engine won't start. Battery (2-yr old) is in good condition (inspected by Sears) but I am not sure if it's fully charged. Does this look like a battery issue or something else?

Bin Cai sounds like your starter is not properly engaging. We need to know more about this mower. What exact model number is it? What engine make and model does it have (17.5HP B&S? ) Pl;ease be exact so that we can try to help you out.

Thanks for your reply.

The mower model is 247.28901. The engine is B&S I/C 210000 or 310000 17.5 HP.

When you engage the starter does your flywheel turn? I can not make it out in your video

Is the flywheel visible from outside? (is it the one under the mesh cover on top of the engine?) I don't see anything moving. Thanks.

Bin Cai sounds and looks like a starter that does not engage the flywheel. Attached is the manual for the starter repair on this model. B&S-starter.pdf Take lots of picture and post those with your question so we can see what you see. Use this guide for that.

If the starter motor is turning but the ENGINE is not cranking, try tapping on the gear that engages the flywheel (not while cranking!). Also, spray a bit of WD40 on the shaft where the gear is located.

When the starter is energized, it spins fast enough to cause the gear on the end of the shaft to slide outward against the force of the spring. If the shaft is corroded or the gear is not free to move, it won't slide and will not engage the teeth of the flywheel. The battery has to be strong enough to spin the starter fast enough to cause this movement. I'd start with lubrication and attempting to move the gear along the shaft.
