My backlight is not working after liquid damage?

My backlight is not working after liquid damage?

Hello guys,

After a water spill, the MacBook Pro backlight stopped working. if I light the screen with a flashlight I can see everything there working, so I think is not a display issue (as the water came through the keyboard). I've seeing some answers about this, and I think it has to do with the fuse (Data Cable?) or the pin 1 of the LCD connector.

This is my computer info:

MacBook Pro 15.4" - Late 2013

Serial: C02LW42UFD56

Model #: A1398

Sales Number: ME293LL/A, ME294LL/A

Logic Board Serial: 820-3662-03

Hi,

I ended up replacing the data cable in the logic board (30 usd). That fixed the issue and is working perfectly. :D

I have the same laptop that suffered the a water spill and backlight is not working. What data cable are you referring to?

Same for me, display working but no backlight . Could you specify the exact cable and where to get it please?

Hi,

I ended up replacing the data cable in the logic board (30 usd). That fixed the issue and is working perfectly. :D — Alexander Ochoa

Hi there.

It's unfortunate your computer fell victim to a liquid incident. However, your best bet would be to replace the LCD panel, or just the entire display assembly. I'd go with the latter, although it is quite a costly part. It is much easier than attempting to pry your LCD out of the frame. If possible, go to a local repair shop as they might even be a cheaper alternative or have various other methods for fixing the backlight.

The thing is, I'm in Colombia and the cost of replacing the display assembly here is 3 times the normal cost for US for example (I can pretty much buy a new one with this money). I went to a certificated repair shop and they told me to replace the display assembly which I'm not sure is going to fix the problem and they are going to charge me another piece. :S

I would say go ahead and buy a new one then! Sadly the other countries outside of us are not as lucky
