iPhone is disabled for 24 million minutes

I just pulled out my old iPhone 5 from its box to see in my horror to be disabled for 24 million minutes (4 decades) and its stuck in airplane mode. I tried methods with putting a working sim in there in rebooting 2 times to no avail. I also heard about restoring it but I don't want to lose all my info on it so can anyone help?

Try updating, and after the update has finished swipe up from the bottom of the lock screen and turn off airplane mode from there.

how do i make my mintues go faster

If you leave the device on earth, then jump in a spaceship travelling at near light speed 'Five years on a ship traveling at 99 percent the speed of light (2.5 years out and 2.5 years back) corresponds to roughly 36 years on Earth'.

Solução escolhida

What solution I eventually found was inserting a working SIM card into the iPhone and it should get the current date which will reverse the problem of having it disabled for an unreasonable amount of time.

What size card did you have to get

@Aziza Whitfield the iPhone 5 was the first phone to be released with the Nano SIM card. Make sure the sim is working since it needs to connect to your cell network to update the date.

yes, you will lose all your information , this is inevitable so you may suck it up I'm sorry to say.

here is the process for restore through iTunes which you will need to have downloaded onto your pc/mac/laptop

make sure phone has some charge in it , 20% or more ideally

open iTunes on pc/;laptop/mac which you will have previously downloaded

connect iphone to computer usb port via iPhone charging cable.

hold both the top power button and the main round home button on screen together until apple logo appears

LET GO OF ONLY THE POWER BUTTON , KEEP PRESSING HOME

keep holding the home button until the connect to iTunes logo appears.

then follow the prompts which it will say to update and restore.

you may then have to wait for the update to download which can take some time depending on internet connection.

PLEASE NOTE , if during this time while downloading the software, that it reverts back to your original screen , then wait for the download to have finished which should be at top right of your screen , an arrow.

THEN REPEAT earlier process of

hold both the top power button and the main round home button on screen together until apple logo appears, then

LET GO OF ONLY THE POWER BUTTON , KEEP PRESSING HOME

keep holding the home button until the connect to iTunes logo appears.

then just follow the online steps again

this will restore your phone to factory settings.

What if your home button is broken and can't connect to Itunes because you have not synced it before?

Only by restoring you can have your phone back. If you have an itunes or icloud backup you can retrieve the info you saved, but all the info you haven't backup will be lost.

To recover you phone turn it off and plug into a pc or mac while holding the home button and follow Itunes indications

I had the same issue here on an iPhone6. Had a broken screen from which the touch functionality only worked on half the screen. Due to this, couldn't enter the passcode properly and had several wrong tries. If that happens it tells you to retry after 5 minutes. The next time, you have to wait 15 minutes, then 60 minutes etc.

So I ordered a new screen and replaced it. In the process I disconnected the battery and reconnected during reassambly. This causes the date to revert to 1st of Jan 1970. Which, yesterday, was 25359778 minutes ago.

I didn't want to restore the phone as we didn't have a recent backup. Also I didn't feel like waiting 48 years to retry.

Finally I just connected to the mac and opened iTunes (not sure if that's necessary). I waited a bit and apparently the phone synced time with the computer. Now I could enter the passcode.

I had this exact same problem with the iPhone 6. I tried Erik127's method and it didn't work but we put in a new SIM card and it fixed it (by resetting the date from Jan 1970 to 2018)..

If the iPhone 5 is disabled and you can get several chances to try. But you'd better think twice before entering different passcodes, otherwise, the device will be locked with no ability to connect to iTunes.

In this situation, you can use iTunes to restore iPhone system to unlock the device or try FoneGeek iPhone passcode unlocker to remove the screen password.
