Battery indicator light and power issue

My laptop was working fine on Tuesday night. When I got up on Wednesday, it will not power on and the battery indicator light is flashing red. It was plugged up to the charger and left on when I went to sleep so I know the battery has charge, but it will not come on. What can I do? I've got school work and no way to login to my school dashboard. I'm devastated, can't have my borrowed system taking a crash dive uggggg

Your laptop may have a mechanism that prevents it from turning on if it thinks something has failed. I'm guessing the battery is so dead it refuses to charge now.

Does the little red light blink in a certain pattern? This may provide a clue as to what's going wrong.

What I'd try first is removing the battery, have the laptop sit there turned OFF for a minute, plug in the AC cord, and power on the laptop (without the battery).
