Why does our water taste like dirt?

I have removed the water bottle and drained all the water from the water cooler. I have wiped clean the inside where the water lays from the water bottle. The water still has a dirty taste. What to do?

Take an empty bottle and mix a quart of water with a cup of vinegar. Shake well put the bottle on and run it through. Next mix up a salt solution and run it through, finally rinse with clean water.
