was watching tv went to change channel with remote--remote wouldn't work--changed batteries-still not working--call tech support-done everything they said--still not with remote. we have to manually turn on/off/change channel/volumn. does remote need reprograming?? think sensor might not be working?? how do we find this out? this a vizio tv--1 1/2 years old.

To check if the remote is working or not or if the batteries need changing, open the camera app on your phone, point the remote sensor at your camera and your camera should pick up the infared.. Try this with a remote that is working first so you know what to look for..

Try cleaning the remote you can do this by fully dissembling the remote and then with soap and water wash the silicon pads with warm soapy water, Use electronic cleaner on the electronics if possible but again soapy water will not harm the remote as long as you fully rinse and air dry the remote at least 4 hrs before reassemble . distilled water is recommended. See if that works.

Make sure your components are turned on and yourTV is set to display the appropriate video source.
You must put the remote in the correct mode bypressing the corresponding component key (TV,DVD, VCR, AUX, SAT·CBL) so the remote knowswhich component you want to operate.
Remove any obstacles between the remote and thecomponent. Make sure to aim the remote at the IRsensor on the component.
Make sure the batteries are fresh and are properlyinstalled. Replace the batteries with two new AAAbatteries, if necessary. Reprogramming may berequired.
Reset the remote instructions are here, If the indicatorlight lights up, reprogram the remote and try again.If it doesn’t light up, replace the batteries with newones

I have the same problem with the on/off not communicating with TV - but we can change channels and volume. We bought another remote and the salesman programmed it for the Vizio, but it worked the same way - no response with On/off , but works with channel change and volume.
