problem printing due to missing laptop driver?

Hi I have a MFC-J220 Brother printer and a L50-A Toshiba laptop computer and recently printer not printing at all. A friend of mine downloaded the Brother full package of drivers for this model thinking this was the problem but he said a box came up saying" computer missing driver for print support" ?? Not sure what this is...Wondering if I just re-format my laptop back to industry standard, will I

re-coup the lost driver ? Not sure why this message occurred as all was fine before.

Any thoughts if this "message" was correct for a missing driver?
