Through view finder only can see black
When I look through the viewfinder it is black. in the right corner I can see the solid M - a blinking orange triangle and a blinking line - .

After taking the lens off can you see the mirror as pictured here on the right?
Did you check the battery?

No I don't see a mirror.
The batteries are good
Then your mirror is stuck. There is a piece of foam rubber at the top of the lens opening that cushions the mirror as moves out of the way for the picture. with very little pressure with your finger see if it is stuck. Be careful here as it doesn't take much pressure to break it! Did it drop? If not the mirror control mechanism needs service. You'll need to find someone skilled in camera repair locally. Check out Minolta's web site for authorized service centers near you.
Okay I don't know where the foam piece is. At the top I see the mirror flat against the top and if you use your fingernail it comes down very easy but doesn't stay down. It was working and we took three pictures and then all of sudden it stopped working.
Not good ;-{ Time for the camera repair shop. Sorry.
At the bottom of the lens opening there is a little lever and if you slid and hold it there with your finger the mirror comes down.
