Which os works with a1260?

I have a new hard drive (don't ask about the old one) and I tried to install the os from the same disk as my G5 -- no good. I don't have the original OS disks for the MacBook Pro and I don't know which to buy ... I need the original then the upgrade ... I'm told

Are you sure you don't need 10.5? Your link says you do.

right, they say you need it - but it's a regular installation dvd that can be used to install or upgrade the system. since every mac was sold with a operating system - you would always be allowed to use this upgrade dvd (on the dark side - you know - the windows universe, there are oem's, upgrades and retails - the snow leopard dvd has the word retail printed on the box (above the barcode) - that makes it full version.

+ as of 2/2011 the new 10.3 disks only cost $29 and are full installation

I recently bought a MacPro 2.8 Intel that I have to replace the motherboard on. I needed the original installation disks because of the fan syncing program on it which I will need. I called Apple on Monday and registered the CPU and told them I needed the disk. I got it yesterday at no charge even after I had given them my credit card approval for the $15 they asked for. So I would call Apple, register and request the original disk if the Snow Leopard upgrade disk does not work.http://www.apple.com/support/contact/pho...
