I only had my Kindle Fire HD for a matter of months before the keyboard stopped popping up. I click into a Search Bar (or something else that requires me to type) and... nothing. This obviously limits its function, so now it's pretty much just a dust collector. Any suggestions?

I found a solution guys you go to SETTINGS then KEYBOARD AND LANGUAGE the scroll down to CURRENT KEYBOARD and select JAPANESE keyboard that will make the key board pop up but itll write it in japanese but where the "SYM" symbol would normaly be there you can change to engle there will be a japanese symble and A and a 1 put it on the A and go to store then you can type and add a keyboard from there typing problen solved

This worked amazingly well. Thank you so much. The Japanese keyboard has an English option like Jose said. You just tap on the letter A down in the bottom left of the Japanese keyboard. This lets you type in English. Then go to wherever you download apps and download a new keyboard. This allows you to be able to type,"keyboard," in the search.......The only problem I had afterward was after the program downloaded you have to be able to go back in your settings to the keyboard setting and it was in Japanese So note what that looks like. Then you scroll down the list there of possible keyboards and the one you downloaded will be in there. My new keyboard was on the same screen that the settings was on, so it was easy to find. Anyway you shut off the other buttons in the keyboards and enable the new one you downloaded. This is working great now and the new keyboard is much better than the one I had.
when I select CURRENT KEYBOARD SETTINGS it kicks me back to the main settings screen :(
wish I had googled this before I bought a new Fire! Jose it worked and I can at least now open things which had parental control. Thanks :)
I cant go to settings without my password.... and I can't type in my password without my keyboard... T-T

Hi. Have you tried resetting the unit?
Resetting your Kindle Fire can solve intermittent problems. To reset your device:
Make sure your device is disconnected from any power source.
Press in the power switch and hold it there for 20 seconds.
The screen should turn off, once the screen is fully turned off press the power button in for 2 seconds and release. The device will turn back on and you will see the Kindle Fire loading screen.
This reset will not affect any books or content you have on the Kindle.

Will not work if the keyboard was removed all together. I'm not sure why the keyboard function is gone but still have the ability to log into the password screen to access the kindle HDX 3rd gen but it still works. if you guys need a solution an you already have aptoide on your kindle just search through the available apps shown for Flash Keyboard (no you dont have to type anything) download it (might take awhile ) install it and you're good to go if this doesnt work post and i'll try to give you another alternative.

My kindle fire hd 7's keyboard won't pop up at all so now i can't even log into it. PLz help

Ya know, I could do that but there is just one problemo...THE KEYBOARD WONT COME UP TO TYPE THAT
Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings. Tap Device Options, and then tap Reset to Factory Defaults. Tap Reset to confirm.
I'm trying to reset it, but I have parent controls and it won't let me reset because I have to put in the parental controls password

I tried many solutions, the only thing that helped my kindle was setting it to factory default (Settings > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults ).
But you will loose all installed applications, pictures and other stuff.

If you dig through responses, a user named Far Isle explained a PERFECT solution….as long as you can access the main screen. Go to Settings, Device Settings & Keyboard option. From that screen, deselect the US English Keyboard and select another country’s English keyboard! I selected both Canada and UK…defaulted to UK on my Kindle Fire HD 10. For good measure I held down the power button until it shut off and then waited a minute before restarting…now the keyboard comes up and types beautifully! (As it should!!)

I have the same issue. but use the voice button, or Alexa to get somethings done. I can't find the setting for the keyboard.

This was the best suggestion. Changed keyboard from English US to English Canada, then rebooted Kindle Fire HD and keyboard reappeared!

My keyboard kinda does this too but when I play a game called rolox the keyboard doesn't pop up it Only pops up when my battery is low :(

I had this issue for my Fire Tablet 10HD (9th edition). Adding a new keyboard worked. I was also able to make it work with the Spanish (Latin American) keyboard so maybe any other keyboard works. With that new keyboard added I was able to factory reses the device (mine needed a PIN to reset it) and the keyboard works great in my original non-functioning language (English) after the factory reset.

Hold the power key down for 40 seconds and let it reset itself. When you switch back on, the bug should have gone. At least this worked with mine.
