Replaced hard drive and now new drive is not booting up

Hi, I have a MacBook 13" intel Core Duo processor. I previous had a 120gb fujistu hard drive installed. I purchased a 320gb western digital hard drive to replace it. I cloned the drive and followed the procedure to replace the drive and when I placed the new drive in, it did not recognize the drive. I placed the original drive back and it also did not recognize the drive. I placed the new drive in an enclosure and it booted up from the USB port.

Does this mean that the HD cable to the logic board is bad or is there another process that i'm missing.

Thank you.

David

If the original drive fails to function and a cloned USB drives works then you must look to the HD cable or its connections. Also make sure you formatted it correctly and it's GUID and set to one partition. Make sure you haven't pulled the HD cable loose.

Instructions for inspection and/or repair would improve if we knew exactly which Book you had. If you can remove the battery and look in the compartment for this information.

hello: Did you follow the manual or just cloned the HD. Sometimes cloning doesnt work...You probably need to install the orginal HD back with the original OS. And read the MacBooks manual. The process is about erase and format it to the native software.

I installed a Western 1TB HHD a few days in my 13" PRO & it worked awesome!! B4 that, Last yr, I installed a 320GB on my PowerBook G4 17", worked fine too...

NO CLONING - Erase & Reformat.

I know that putting files back in the computer It takes time, just be patience. Took me a day to not fill the 1TB HHD :0

Read the question. He already tried replacing the original drive.

Hi Samuel,

Thank you for the response. At first, I thought the cloning didn't work either until I replaced the original drive back in with the same response. That led me to believe there was a problem with the HD cable. I'm able to run my MacBook right now with the new HD externally with a USB enclosure with no issues.

Maybe I damaged the connector when I replaced the HD. Just trying to diagnosis the problem via process of elimination.

Thanks,

David
