Welding points melted after spill damage

Hi guys,

This is my second time posting after a spill damage caused my laptop screen backlight to stop working.

After cleaning the logic board with isopropyl alcohol, I was able to spot some damages on the connecting pin between the main cable to the screen and the logic board (see picture).

It looks as if 3-4 out of the 20 welding points melted.

So I have 2 questions:

-is there any way this "melt" is the only damage responsible for the backlight failure?

-how can I meld it back? Should I go see a professional or is it actually possible to fix this by my own?

Thanks for any tip! Have a nice day :-)

You might be able replace the connector on the logic board. It does require a bit of soldering skill working on these SMT devices. The question is are you equipped and skilled enough?

The other shoe here is...

You likely have other damage. There is a few fuses that likely blew and the ribbon cable that connects into this connector may also be damaged and the driver logic as well could have been damaged.

I think your best bet here is going to an independent authorized Apple service center and see what they can do for you.

Ummm no they're going to tell him buy a new one lol. Take it to some one who does board level repair. Likely the connector is destroyed as well as the pads for backlight output. The fuse may also be blown, and expect to need a new LCD cable on the screen and/or a new display assembly altogether.
