What is the best way to clean the keyboard?

Due to a spilled beverage my spacebar no longer actuates properly. It will still register a keypress but it takes quite a bit more effort.

I am prepared to do as small of a tear down as necessary to get at the parts to clean them but I can't tell how much im going to need to do based on the pictures/text already provided and can't find a teardown video online.

I briefly considered a using a bit of water in the keys but since it turns on with a press of the spacebar I wouldn't even be able to work the spacebar until I let it dry out again.
