Hi @catlove ,
Things to try:
i). Run an ''sfc command'' to make sure that all the system files are OK. Type ''cmd'' in the Windows search box, on the left side of the TaskBar and when the Command app appears, click on ''Run as Administrator.'' When the Command window opens type ''sfc /scannow'' and then press the Enter key. ''Note:'' In the command line there is a space before the / symbol but not after. If you make a typing error, use the backspace key to get back to where the error is and retype the command. This is old world computing - keyboard only.
ii). Try starting the PC in [link|https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-10/|safe mode with networking] and check how long it takes to load.
The display will look different because only generic Windows drivers are loaded and not drivers specific to the hardware in your PC.
-If it starts OK in safe mode, then there is a driver problem. Have you checked if all the drivers are up to date?
+If it starts OK in safe mode, then there is a driver problem. Have you checked if all the drivers are up to date? Look in Device Manager for any hardware entries that have a yellow exclamation mark or a red cross next to them. To get to Device manager, press the Win key + x key (both together) and click on the link. You can also update any drivers from here. Select a hardware device e.g. display adapter click on the > symbol to the left of the Adapter category then right click on the display adapter hardware entry and click on ''update drivers''. You need to be online for this to work.
iii) Check what programs are being loaded at startup. Go to ''Task Manager > Startup.'' To get to Task Manager, right click on the TaskBar and click on the link. Some programs are necessary but a lot aren’t. If you don’t recognize the program name, Google it to find out what it is for and what it does. Sometimes when programs are installed they a placed in Startup to effectively be pre-loaded in case you need to use them. They will open faster because of this. If you hardly ever use them then it just wastes resources and if there is a problem with their installation etc, this can slow down the startup of the PC.
You can disable the program from loading at startup by ''right click on the Program’s Status and selecting disable.'' Restart the PC in the normal manner and check if it loads any faster. If there are any problems caused by disabling it, simply re-enable it again the same way that you disabled it. Disabling a program in Startup does not disable the program itself. You can still use it by clicking on the program icon if it is on the desktop or looking through the menus when you click on the Windows Start button on the left side of the Taskbar. It just takes longer to open that’s all.
