Xbox: Xbox wont turn on?

My original Xbox has been sitting in a cabinet and is in like-new condition. It worked perfectly until one day when it wouldn't turn on. I thought it might be the power cable because I've read that the original cables can be faulty/were recalled. So I bought the new power cable but this still didn't work. The console doesn't make any noise or anything when I press the power button. It acts as if it is getting no power. Anyone know what's wrong?

Xbox: ATX to Xbox conversion

There are two things on my mind....

1) I want to transfer my Xbox to another case and I'd rather use an ATX PSU for safety rather than the exposed original power board.

2) Original power boards are ageing as no new ones have been made for a while.

So, I want to try and find a conversion method to run an original Xbox on an ATX PSU.

I know this has been done before, and I've got a 1.6 version Xbox, but the original Xbox community seems to be dying. xbox-scene.com seemed to drop off the world completely this week.

There used to be a conversion board that tacked the two main problems...

1) The xbox draws most of its power across the 5v line whereas an ATX PSU supplies the bulk of the juice on 12v.

2) The Xbox sends power on over the 3.2v line wherease the ATX expects this on teh 5v line.

The person (I think in Sweden) that sold the converter board seems to have packed things in (sickmods.net)

I've tried asking for help, as I'm not capable of taking some of the rough diagrams that some people have thrown together, and running with them... because I don't have enough knowledge of electronics to be able to turn that information in to a plan that I can follow.

So... I'm up against it and know that if the original Xbox PSU dies... I've got slim chance of a fall back which, itself will probably be at the end of its life.

Xbox: Salty smell and flickering image

Hi,

last night i've been playing my classic xbox for like a 30min and turned it off. Everything was working fine. I woke up, turned it on, and immediately I could smell this salty aroma (typical for burning electronics). No flashing red light (its solid green), no errors its working. The problem is the image turns off every couple of seconds and then its back again. And there is this screen flickering lines.

Im using the same power cable that i've been using for my PS3, and not genuine component cable.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Do you think that replacing it would have any impact on my xbox performance?

Update (12/02/2016)

Here are some photos.

Back of the motherboard (the black thing is behind that fried microchip @jayeff was talking about - i think).

Xbox: Xbox (1.0) Burnt out Resistor on PSU Board.

Hello, I'm new to electronic so apologies if this is a foolish question. I have a burnt out Resistor on my power supply as seen here.

Looking at another Xbox I believe the bands on the resistor are Yellow, Brown, Orange. Indicating a 41 kΩ. The problem is I don't know the wattage or the tolerance. Does any one know what I would need to buy to replace this burnt out resistor to prevent it from burning out again? Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.
