Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet Troubleshooting
The Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet (1S0831CTOR9DK9LA) is a portable laptop which you ca n turn it into a tablet. It was manufactured in February 2010 by Lenovo. This laptop offers long battery life and 500GB storage. This is the highly portable X Model, which is capable of 360 degree tablet orientation.
Unresponsive Power Button
The power button will not operate to turn on the tablet.
Dirt, dust, or grime in the button
Look around and between the spaces of your power button for any small particles that may be blocking you from pressing the button downwards. Use a cotton swab to remove any noticeable obstructions, then use a slightly moist microfiber cloth to clean any additional grime around the button. After removing all or most of the grime, press power again.
Missing, loose, or jammed power button
If you can see that the power button is missing or stuck, then there may be a problem with the lever itself. This will require taking apart the tablet to replace the button apparatus.
Device won’t load files
Your device is struggling and/or taking a while to load files.
Protected memory card
Remove individual memory card units from the device and look for any physical scratches on it. Blowing on the memory card will clean any dust that may have been trapped there. Also blow where the memory card was inserted. Reinsert memory card.
If your tablet suddenly stopped loading files, then the memory card may already be filled. Remove your memory card from the laptop and insert it into the SD card slot of the laptop. The computer should recognize the memory card as a storage device, allowing you to transfer pictures and files from the memory card to your computer. This will free up space in your memory card, allowing you to return it to your laptop to allow more pictures.
Broken memory card
If there is no physical write protection switch and the memory card is empty, then the memory card may need to be reformatted through a Windows or Mac computer.
Caution: Doing this will completely erase all contents stored in the memory card.
If formatting the memory card does not solve the problem, then it may need to be replaced with a new one.
Battery will not charge
When the device is plugged into power and button is hit the tablet has no reaction.
This laptop comes with a Li-ion rechargeable battery and is a reliable battery with a decent reputation. If the laptop will not turn on then the battery is a definite cause. However, replacing the battery is a quick and simple fix. The simplest way to fix this would be to order a replacement battery for only $9.99 but if you’re not in the mood to spend money then there is another option for you, a full recharge. In order to accomplish this you must completely drain the battery (make sure it’s dead by trying to turn it on) and then connect the charger. The battery needs to charge for at least 48 hours before testing. This is a common fix for lithium ion batteries.
Laptop is not Charging
Check to see if there is any dust, dirt, or grime that is preventing a power source from charging the device. If this is not the case then your power port cable may need to be replaced.
Device Screen is discolored
Before you lose hope after retesting the battery and go out and buy a new one, you should check if the tablet itself is actually turning on but the screen doesn’t work. There is a separate guide for checking the display in this troubleshooting guide. . .
Webcam video is too dark
The fan is not working to full capacity, causing the motherboard to overheat.
This problem can be caused by the fact that the light for the flash is dead. The best way to fix this problem would be to disassemble the laptop camera itself, replace the old bulb with the existing bulb, and then reassemble the camera. This method can be dangerous however, as the capacitor in a camera’s flash can carry a charge for months to years. If you are not confident in your skills then it’s best to call the company and request they repair the camera themselves. If you do feel confident || Link guide to disassemble ||.
If the flash on the camera itself is not the problem then we’re looking for what is causing the camera’s flash to malfunction. A common problem that causes a camera’s flash to not work is that the camera’s shutter is not working properly. The camera and flash must be synchronized in order for the shutter to open fully. If the shutter isn’t open completely then the pictures will come out dark and hard to recognize. Quick steps in order to fix a jammed shutter are:
Set your camera to manual.
Turn off any features that might drain the battery. These can be image stabilization, flash, LCD Display.
Set your shutter to the slowest speed possible (15-30 seconds).
Take a picture.
Open the battery door during the exposure and then close it right up. The momentary power interruption during exposure time might be able to jog your shutter open.
Repeat until your shutter un-jams.
Device won’t sync data
You connect to the USB connector the camera does not show it is connected.
Faulty USB Connector
If your camera will not charge through your USB connector then this could be easily be resolved by purchasing a new connector. USB connectors are commonly broken from too much use, exposed wires, or any type of water damage. Once you obtain the new USB connector, first check that it is the correct one, then find a reliable power source (outlet, computer USB port, etc.).
Individual keys don’t depress
Keystrokes are shallow and won’t fully depress.
Debris in Keyboard
If your keyboard buttons don’t press down fully then their is likely food crumbs stuck below the buttons. Remove any food crumbs and debris by using thin pick like a toothpick. Slide the toothpick under the keyboard button and pull up. Like a lever de-attatch the button, clean using clorox wipes then reinsert the key
Wrong Orientation of Keys
If respective keyboard keys don’t appear on the screen double check the physical buttons are not mismatched on the keyboard. So use a toothpick to unclip keyboard buttons. Make sure the QWERTY buttons are in order, and in right positions when you place your fingers. After checking all buttons are in correct order, re insert the keys.
