Will Not Turn On
The laptop will not power on, does not make any noise, and the screen is not responsive.
Broken Charger
The charger to the laptop may be broken or may not supply enough power to the battery of the laptop. Try using a new charger.
Broken Charging Port
The charging port on the laptop may not be working. This is where the charger plugs into the laptop. When you plug in your charger and the charger initially works or works when you hold it a certain way, then the charging port may be broken. Depending on how damaged the port is, you may need to consider purchasing a new charging port.
Broken Battery
If your laptop will not turn on and the charger and the charging port are working properly, then the battery to the laptop may be broken. Use this guide to replace the battery.
Screen Is Black
The laptop makes noise and appears to be powering on, but the screen is not responsive.
BIOS Is Corrupted
The BIOS of a laptop is a software element within the operating system which controls input and output operations. You may need to recover the last working BIOS version on the laptop. To solve this issue, make sure your laptop is powered off. Then, press and hold the windows and “B” keys, and press the power button for three seconds. Next, release only the power button. Once you do this, one of five things may happen:
- Windows may start up. This means you are ready to update to the latest BIOS version. You will do so by following what the screen says.
- Your laptop may display a message that there is a boot problem or the computer improperly shut down. If this is the case, then the laptop will show you the next steps to take.
- Your laptop may repeatedly display a BIOS recovery message. In this case, you may need to recover your BIOS using a USB recovery drive.
- The power light might turn off because you were pressing the power button for too long. Try repeating the steps above.
- If nothing happens, try repeating the steps above using the “V” key instead of the “B” key.
If the BIOS does not seem to be the problem, and your screen continues to display a black screen, then there may be a problem with the motherboard. See the subheading below.
Motherboard Issues
The motherboard may not be functioning properly. You may need to replace or fix the motherboard. Try reseting your BIOS before using this guide to replace the motherboard.
Crashes
A software application or operating system stops functioning properly.
Overheating
The laptop overheating can cause the laptop to crash. This will happen if the fan is not functioning properly, the device is in extreme heat conditions, and if there is debris blocking the fan. If the laptop feels like it is overheating, then there might not be a problem with the RAM. See the heading titled “Overheating” to solve this problem.
Not Enough RAM
If your device is slow and skips, you more then likely need more RAM to resolve this issue. This guide will help you to update the RAM.
Keyboard Isn’t Working
When you press down on the keys there is no response on the screen showing you pressed it.
Keys Stick When They Are Pressed
This is most likely because there is dirt and dust under the faulty key. If this happens, remove the faulty keys and wipe them clean.
Keyboard Is Disconnected
The keyboard is not internally connected. You should open the device by taking off the palmrest so you can access the inside and plug the ribbon cable into its designated slot. Then put the palmrest back on and check to see if the keys are functional. You may need to do this multiple times.
Overheating
The device gets too hot.
Dust Build Up On The Fan
You may need to clean the fan from all debris that may be present. This does require you to deconstruct your laptop to get to the fan. Once the laptop is opened up to the fan, clean the fan with either a Q-tip or a compressed air duster.
Broken Fan
If the fan does not spin at all after being cleaned, then it is possibly broken and needs to be replaced. Use this guide for a fan replacement.
