My screen shows an error page or has shut down completely
The laptop screen will not open up to the homepage or the lock screen, it only shows an error page or blank screen.
"No OS Found” Message
If an error message appears, it would most likely be from one of two main causes. The simple fix is to just restart your laptop; there was a minor error when reading the hard drive. If a restart does not fix the problem, the issue could come from the hard drive itself. In this case, there are two small things to check before more extensive work needs to be done. First, check the wire leading from the motherboard to the hard drive. The wire could be frayed or disconnected. The other quick fix is in the startup settings. At the opening boot up sequence when you see the Acer logo, go into the options menu (one of the F buttons listed) and check the boot sequence. You want to make sure the motherboard is trying to read the hard drive first to start the laptop. If all of that is fine, Windows or Linux may not be loaded onto your hard drive correctly or even at all. A full reboot may be in order with either a set of backup disks or the original OS (operating system) disks that came with the laptop. If at last the laptop still will not load the OS then it may be time to invest in a new hard drive. They are incredibly fragile on the inside and once broken, difficult to repair.
”No Hard Drive Found” Message
A no hard drive error is very similar to the No OS Found error. The difference is in this error, the laptop can not find the hard drive at all. The hard drive could be in working order, it just can not be located. A lot of the same troubleshooting steps apply here. First, restart the laptop. If the problem continues, check the wires. After that, check the boot sequence. If the problem still continues it is either the hard drive is faulty at the port where it connects to the wires or it is the motherboard that is faulty and will not read the hard drive. The best way to test this is to get a new hard drive and new wire setup. Replace both just for the fact that having spare parts just in case is always a good idea. Follow our guide: Acer Aspire R11-R3-131T-C1Z5 Hard Drive Replacement
If the new hard drive boots up fine then the old hard drive was the issue. If the new hard drive fails, the motherboard is the next likely culprit. Also, it should go without saying that you need to make sure any replacement parts are compatible with your Acer Aspire laptop.
Hard Drive Error “Blue Screen of Death”
This is probably the most common error amongst computer users. This message means the laptop has crashed. Sometimes all it takes is a hard restart (holding down the power button till the laptop turns off to shut it down). If the issue is frequent then it could be a formatting issue. The problem could be fixed by formatting your laptop or resetting to backup settings (using backup disks). Inside the hard drive is a silver disk that spins at a high rate of speed. This disk is fragile and a hard enough hit in the right spot could scratch the disk and render it useless. This would not completely make the hard drive unusable however. The laptop would just crash frequently without warning. This issue is only fixed by replacing the hard drive completely. In rare cases, a frayed wire may cause a hard drive to stop working while in use. A wire replacement could fix that. If a replacement is too costly, electrical tape is the next best fix.
My laptop won’t charge
Even when plugged into the charging cord, the laptop will not charge or hold power.
Bad Battery
Make sure that it is the laptop that’s having issues, and not the charging cable. Once sure of this, you can continue. If the laptop won’t recharge, it might need a restart. Start by removing the battery, then hold the power button down for at least one minute. Plug in the charging cable (power adapter) without reinserting the battery, then press the power button again. Power off the laptop and unplug the power adapter before inserting the battery, then keep the power adapter plugged in while turning the laptop back on. If this does not work, the battery may need to be replaced. Refer to our guide: Acer Aspire R11-R3-131T-C1Z5 Battery Replacement
My laptop makes a creaking noise when opened or closed
The laptop is difficult to open and makes creaking noises.
Stiff Hinges
If the laptop screen won’t open or close smoothly, the hinges could be stiff. Using WD40 or any silicone lubricant, carefully clean around the hinges to loosen them. If problem still persists, the hinges might need to be replaced by referring to our Acer Aspire R11-R3-131T-C1Z5 Hinges Replacement
My computer is working slowly/ turning off randomly
I was playing my computer game and my computer just shut off
Disorganized Hard Drive
If your computer is slow, chances are you are dealing with a disorganized or fragged hard drive. Having a disorganized or fragged hard drive makes file not work smoothly. . Look into your laptop's defragment software and see if your Hard Drive is fragged. If it is, select the de-fragging option.
Bad RAM
If the laptop is working slowly while running programs or randomly shutting off, you probably have a bad RAM. The RAM (Random Access Memory) serves as a short term memory holder for the laptop. RAM clears up after boot up but if it is full or bad, there is not enough memory for the computer to run, causing problems such as:
- performance diminishes
- programs lag
- randomly turns on or off
- the laptop freezes
If this is the case, the best thing to do is to replace the RAM with a new one. Refer to our Acer Aspire R11-R3-131T-C1Z5 Ram Replacement
My touch-pad is not responding
The touch-pad will not respond and or the cursor is not appearing on screen.
Touch-Pad Turned Off
Most computers allow you to manually turn on and off the touch-pad. Yours may have turned off with an accidental click of a button. Hold down the Fn and F7 keys simultaneously to unlock the pad. If the touch-pad still fails to respond, check your touch-pad settings on the laptop. This can be different based on your operating system. You will need to plug in a mouse to proceed. If you are in Windows 7 and 8, Click on START, type in "mouse settings", and press “change mouse settings”. If you are working with Windows 10, click the windows key, go to settings, select devices, and locate touch-pad. Here you will be able to figure out if your touch-pad is enabled or disabled. If disabled, enable it.
Faulty Touch-Pad Driver
Your touch-pad may be in need of a new driver. Check out Acer’s website for a driver that you can install to help resolve the issue by clicking here: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/dr...
