The answers to this question helped me and I thought a picture of the switch near the ball would help. I am pointing to the black switch with a pen in the photo. 3 screws and you can get too it. In the photo you can see the cover removed after the screws are taken out. Also mine looks slightly different as the wheels that hold it upright when stored broke so I just took them off.
As oldturkey03 said I would suspect the fuse first. Mine too was not powering up and when it did it would not recognizing the tray being in place. I took it apart looked for any easy electronic problems: fuse, burnt areas indicating over heating or failed electrical components / short, loose electrical connections etc. Never found what the exact problem was but something may have been loose because after doing the above and putting it back together it worked:)
ours only stops now by using the switch on the back, We switch it on then press any button on the front and it goes full speed, pressing any button to stop it on the front has no effect. Going to tear It down look for any burnt signs on the electronics, inspect the brushes and lube the bearing. It is 12 + year old and been really great to us. Thank you for the tear down and comments
I have heard of others getting leaks but I have not had any yet. Anything you see in the pictures is as it came from the factory the only change I have made was to change out the top screws in the beginning of the other guide.
There is a black plastic band around the front glass. So stick the razor between the metal back and outside of the black plastic that is around the front glass. If you look closely at the first picture you can see the black plastic strip outside of the front glass. If you stick it between the black plastic and screen you could leave the mid frame in the metal case and only lift up the the glass and screen.
I had the tray missing error too. I never found the specific cause but taking it partially apart and looking for loose connections, electrical burns, dirt etc and then reassembling it did work. Error 8 seems to be “brew group” failure to home but I am not familiar with 16. Sorry I don’t have a better answer. There are lots of great youtube guides too. https://youtu.be/Pxad75B2WLQ
you can try pulling it off the machine (pull straight down), then if you hold the small pointed end when turning the other end it will unscrew apart, I think there are five pieces ( outer metal sleeve, inner metal sleeve threaded at the bottom end, small metal nozzle that screws on the inner metal sleeve and then two black rubber pieces that may or may not come off for you) after you have it all apart you can soak it, scrub it and or use a needle to poke out the center of the nozzle. Or you might find just using a needle solves it. Hope this helps
no experience but if I felt gutsy enough I would disassemble the water path and flush it out but then you might get leaks and or need to replace some of the parts. At the very least I would take off the panels look at the lines and see how difficult disassembly / reassembly might be then weigh that vs sending it to Capresso.
Adele sorry to hear about your trouble. I doubt the manufacturer sells those kind of parts. I assume you have tried removing power from it for a while then plugging it back it. I would recommend contacting http://www.capresso.com/contact.shtml
I have had good luck with talking to them. Also my friend sent his in for refurbishment by Capresso (~$250) and he said it came back like new:) If mine ever dies I plan on doing that. Also you could try taking it apart and looking for anything out of sorts. Good luck

Super easy
just be super careful with the pentalobe screws, easy to cam out and strip the heads
be sure driver is engaged and apply more down force then you would think before turning
Thank you JC Gidley, removed the mention of down from the last point

or that could be true:)
