Thanks for this helpful tutorial. I thought I might have to replace my trackpad, since it didn't click well anymore while still moving the cursor well. But I discovered that this is the case when something is pressing against the trackpad from below, hindering it from clicking well. Below the trackpad lies the battery, so if your battery is old it can be swollen. In this case you need to replace the battery. In my case I had replaced the battery and tightened the two battery screws too much, which pressed the battery against the trackpad. Loosening the two battery screws a bit solved my problem without the need to buy a new trackpad.
Thanks for this tutorial. Even without any experience, it was very easy. But when I opened my MacBook Pro 13'' mid 2009 I saw that there was only very little dust inside even though I've been using it for 14 years, also in not very clean conditions, without cleaning it before. Conclusion: Depending on your laptop model, not much dust is getting inside, in which case there won't be a need to clean it for many years, since cleaning also bears a small risk of damaging e.g. the fan.
I had the opposite problem: My trackpad moved the cursor well but didn't click well anymore. Thanks for this very helpful tutorial! Without having any experience, I could easily change my HDD to a 500 GB SSD within a few minutes and it has immediately worked. Besides that, I have changed the battery and upgraded the RAM from 4 to 8 GB thanks to the other useful Ifixit tutorials, and my MacBook Pro 13'' mid 2009 has been working well for 14 years, now with Linux Mint 21.1.

Thanks for this very helpful tutorial! Without having any experience, I could easily change the battery within a few minutes and it has immediately worked. BUT one important hint is missing: Don't tighten the two battery screws too much! I did, causing the new battery to press against the trackpad from below, thefore my trackpad wouldn't click well anymore. After opening the MacBook Pro again and loosening the two battery screws a bit, my trackpad is working well again.
