For my educational career, I am a Biology major on a Pre-Med track. My goals are to become an Emergency Room medical doctor. I already have a General Education Associate of Arts from Spokane Falls Community College. I have an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Certification from Spokane Community College as well. I also plan on going to the West Plains Fire Academy during this quarter starting in February.
I currently serve as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT at Medical Lake Fire Department. Before my job as a Firefighter, I was a Lifeguard because it was the only medical/rescue job I could work in as a 16 year old. Throughout my short career in the Emergency Medical Services and Fire/Rescue community I have learned many skills in leadership, fast effective thinking under stress and of course many different skills in firefighting, life support, medical aid and rescues.
My writing experience has been strengthened through many scholarships’ requirements of essays, report writing for EMT work, as well as Freshman and Sophomore level prerequisite English classes. My strengths are writing reports and essays and I feel writing memos isn’t all that different from what I do at work when writing short yet in-depth medical reports of incidents. My weaknesses however are creative writing and writing for entertainment. When I wrote I focus on getting it done, so it’s hard for me to think of stories and entertaining elements for them.
As for competencies in my hopeful career, I’d like to be able to clearly communicate over text when writing procedural orders and prescription orders as well. As I mentioned earlier, my experience for the workplace is mainly learned through report writing so I am extremely confident in writing reports or anything similar.
