The above answers may very well be your issue, but I have experienced a different issue that seems much more likely. The exact same thing happened with my DS4. At the base of each trigger there are two plastic pins that snap into a pair of clips; this is how the triggers rotate inward when you press them. The issue arises when one of the pins (usually on R2-the most often used, and abused, "fire" button in most FPS) breaks off. When one of the pins breaks off, the spring that provides the satisfying resistance pushes the broken side of the trigger out of its clip, and when pressed, the trigger does not always reach the afore mentioned button membrane. To resolve the issue, I purchased a bag of triggers (assorted L1, L2, R1 & R2) that also came with springs for when they lose their "springiness" for ~$10 on eBay.
