    • Power Station Jump Starter

    • Model PS1100

    • The bad battery could be replaced to restore it to full functionality.

  2. Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 2, imagem 1 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 2, imagem 2 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 2, imagem 3 %32
    • Opening it up reveals the Lead battery, AC/DC converter, 12V DC input, switch, back of circuit board, back of light.

    • Additional bells and whistles are sometimes added (lights, switches, compressors, power jacks, etc.) Some have AC power jacks which require a DC/AC converter which is more expensive than an AD/DC converter.

  3. Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 3, imagem 1 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 3, imagem 2 %32
    • The battery to the left is the culprit of the dead power supply. A jump starter is nothing more than a small car battery with some wires.

    • Any 12V battery with the same dimensions should work as a replacement

    • This is a Lead 12V 17AmpHours battery made by Pilot battery Co. Ltd.

    • Model PL17-12

  4. Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 4, imagem 1 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 4, imagem 2 %32
    • Both power inputs. AC/DC converter and DC 12V input.

    • The designers of this jump starter simply purchased an aftermarket AC/DC adapter and built it in.

    • The adapter has an input of 120V (typical outlet voltage) and an output of 15V (perfect for charging a 12V battery).

    • Left - DC Power Jack, Right - Thermal Relay for safety and protection

  5. Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 5, imagem 1 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 5, imagem 2 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 5, imagem 3 %32
    • Circuit board with your typical LEDs, Resistors, Transistors (black half circles), IC chips (long black), Capacitors (disks and cyliders), buttons (right middle) Power Rectifier (left middle square), Diodes (small black, bar on one side), Piezo Speaker (large and round, bottom)

    • Light with 5 LED's

    • Big Switch to handle 12V

  6. Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 6, imagem 1 %32 Jump Starter Power Station Teardown: passo 6, imagem 2 %32
    • The back module is the compressor. It will still function normally by application of a 12v power supply.

    • I did not disassemble the compressor. I will bolt a plexiglass cover over the top and solder a 12v car adapter to run it as an emergency compressor

    • I have a walk through on recycling the compressor on instructables.com

where can i find more information on the circuit? plan to add a switch to my jumpstarter to either charge the internal battery or an external battery...

would that 700mA handle a 65Ah battery if i simply attach a device like that to that slightly bigger battery?

I have one of these that the ac adapter has come loose from the main board. is there a possibility that you could post a photo of exactly where the adapter solders onto the main board?

can I use a 12V 18Amp

pjfz80 - Responder

To charge the battery? The back of the unit will say what the "input" should be.

helpful article any chance on getting the dimension of the battery I do not see PL17-12 but many like it. the dimension would be helpful

Thanks for the information, I was able to purchase a 6FM-18 battery that was a perfect fit and it is all up and running, great help from your post.

What is the peak amp output this will start a vehicle with is it 1100 peak amps? as in the model number

My compressor will not come on. It can on one time then makes a noise but does not put out compressor air, any ideas?

Thanks for this tutorial. it was very helpful.

was using my unit as an air compressor. the unit shut off in just a few minutes and now nothing will come on. no led display

The air compessor hose nozzle which connects to the tire valve stem broke off in my PS1100. Any idea where I can find a replacement part?

Mike Fatah - Responder

I am 99% sure that you will never find that part. any of these components aren't really meant to be replaced. Things like the battery or the ac-dc converter you can find because they just used off-the-shelf parts. You could probably find that size hose but you would have to find a way to seal/crimp it onto the air nozzle on the other end.

Truth is that all these jump starter/compressor combos are Chinese imported junk. You can extend it’s life if you purchase it new from store and charge that battery 72 hours before ever touching anything else on the unit. Never set or store the unit on bare concrete and if you can avoid it never use the compressor once. If you must then leave it on a maximum of 2 mins a use and full recharge after each use. These units are actually pretty well made and very durable. No fuse will save a defective one of these units because no fuse in it. Never purchase any item needing these type of lead sealed batteries. They’re all defective and just being sold in every possible item they can use them in because theyre dirt cheap and lead. They already have much cheaper and far more reliable versions of these batteries and wont update because they have a cash income source with the defects that just keeps giving and giving. Razor Scooter, best built scooter youll find, rechargeable sealed batteries make them junk.

mark buller - Responder

Its the sealed batteries. Purchase no product that uses these. Defective in Razor Scooters and all forms of medical scooters, all electric toy cars and the electric shopping carts in stores..Already have lithium batteries that can remedy all of the above..why havent they? Why isnt it an option at purchase? The jump starters cant be lithium until the car batteries are. Why arent they both? Called robbing the consumer. Dont purchase any item with lead sealed rechargeable!!!

My speedway start to finish 4 to 1 power station, doesn't charge anymore. What must I do to get it charged? Is there anyone I can send it to to fix it?

Any idea why I can't turn off the light or is there a way to take the bulb out. It only goes out when the unit is fully drained and that takes weeks.

Wali Rivers - Responder

Everything seems to be working as intended. However the flashlight on the front will not turn off unless the battery is fully drained. Is there anything I can do or can I disconnect that bulb? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Wali Rivers - Responder

It is most likely a problem with your light on/off switch. To test if that is the problem check resistance with a multimeter between the two points on the switch. If the resistance doesn’t change when you switch the button then it is a faulty switch. If you don’t have a multimeter you can physically remove the wire and verify the light goes off.

Can you “charge” A completely dead battery in the jump back with a trickle charge to bring it back to life?

type007 - Responder

I have a powerstation psx1004in. I plugged in a cordless drill battery and suddenly the AC power slot stopped working. I turn it on/off and it hums, red light turns green, then back to red. Sounds like a mini fan turns on inside the unit. But, AC power doesn't work.

Fully charged and all other functions work (air compressor, usb, 12v).

How do I fix the AC power?

D Henry - Responder

Does compressor have fuse

William Hill - Responder

I don't remember but probably. Looking at the pictures it looks like it has a thermal relay too.

you've guided very well in this article, I also had difficulties in understanding working of a jump starter but found its instructions on a website

EverStart JUS750CE Jumper Starter

My unit works thru cigarette lighter option but does not charge . When I have it plugged in to wall electric outer plug it also doesn’t run.

Is a new battery the fix or worth it ??
