This guide presents a detailed visual inspection and disassembly analysis of a Cummins X15 engine with approximately 500,000 miles on the odometer.

First, remove the cylinder head. The X15's cylinder head has a 24-valve arrangement and a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) structure (a single overhead camshaft structure is also available). Then we can see the X15 engine's valve rocker arms. The entire engine has a total of 18 rocker arms，the valve rocker arm and the fuel injector rocker arm.

Step 2: Engine Block and Piston Inspection With the CUMMINS X15 head removed, we can inspect the pistons and combustion chambers. This is the critical stage to check the head gasket mounting surface for leaks and analyze carbon buildup on the piston crowns, which can indicate fuel injector health or oil consumption issues.

Step 3: Bottom End Inspection (Crankshaft & Rods) After removing the oil pan, we can inspect the CUMMINS X15's rotating assembly. Check the crankshaft and connecting rods for signs of overheating or bearing wear. This view also allows us to examine the cylinder liner skirts for cracks or unusual friction marks.
