Meu Problema

My battery became almost unusable, and I wanted a quick fix to tie me over until the iPhone 5 comes out.

When I went to the Apple store, they told me they don't replace batteries, all they could do for me (since I was out of warranty) is giving me a completely new phone for the low price of $149. When I told him, that the guy on the phone, I talked earlier to, told me that it would only cost $79, the tech said "Let me see if I can give it to you for that price... Ah yes you qualify." Now, why did he not know/see (or wanting to see) this the first time he told me a price.

I am so annoyed, that one always has to threaten or ask or demand, to get the REAL (lower) price.

But then, they didn't even have a replacement phone (3GS) in the store, which was the point where I asked myself, what kind of a store and service is this? They should have a least one 3GS laying around somewhere.

So we had him order the phone, since he told us there was no obligation to take it, once it is in the store.

Then a friend told us about ifixit.com, and what a breeze of fresh air that was!

Finally there was somebody who offered an affordable fix for this short period of time.

The order was easy, the website easy to understand. The delivery only took a couple days and all the tools came with it. What more can you ask for?!

The repair guide was awesome. and I had close to no problem to do the repair. When the phone was completely disassembled and the battery out, I did wonder however, whether I will get it together again in the end. But everything went fine.

Thanks, ifixit! I hope you can eventually offer the same help for the iPhone 5. - once I have it and I will experience problems, I'll be back! :-)

Tip: Go easy on the screws during the reassembly. I think I damaged the screw that holds the camera, when I put it back together. But it was tight, so I didn't touch it anymore. Don't over-tighten!
