Meu Problema

My G5 iMac shut off every day about a half hour after booting up for the day, and then it would run okay for the rest of the day, except for some weird video flickering from time to time. (How's that for a run-on sentence?) Then one day it didn't want to boot up at all. I googled the problem and found ifixit.

Minha Solução

How did it go? It was lovely. First of all, I have little-to-no experience in computer repair. I only run disk utility when things get really bad in the permissions department. BUT, I watched the ifixit video, and read the document on how to change out the power supply, and so I swapped out the power supply pretty easily. It was tricky to get it out of the case, as there's a screw that gets in the way... but the case bent without cracking so I guess those ifixit guys know what they're talking about. It took me about 10 minutes to wrestle it out, but popping the new one in took about 30 seconds.

Meu Conselho

The tricky thing for me was trying to figure out what a spudger was, as this was not a term I was familiar with. I googled that, and then ordered one with my power supply. Now, everybody is jealous of my spudger. I have put it in a place of honor, and will be buying some for family for Christmas. You really can't do the job without a spudger. Don't skimp on the spudging. You will need to spudge.
