Failing to repair an iPod Touch 2nd Gen
LX2023 -
Meu Problema
The battery was so shot, the iPod wouldn't boot.
I was trying to run some tests on it in order to prepare for another iPod Touch, with the data that I cared about on it.
Minha Solução
Went well, until the end.
I had successfully de-soldered the battery (to an extent), but I was too lazy to go out and find another one to replace it, so i ended up making a whole circuit to spoof the ipod into thinking it had a battery, even though it did not. Worked like a charm.
The problems only arose when I wanted to also take apart my other, more important iPod Touch 2nd Gen in order to fix its power button. While removing the glass on the front, my tool (a metal flathead screwdriver) ended up slipping and clipping a capacitor on the Logic Board, causing fatal damage. I think that this is the end of the line for it :c
Meu Conselho
The most important thing I learned from this: USE (proper) PLASTIC TOOLS, NOT METAL ONES!
No matter how good you think you are at using alternative tools, it's better to be safe than sorry, especially when fixing something irreplaceable.
Another thing to consider: be patient, if something isn't coming loose or back together, chances are, you're doing it wrong!
