Kind HDX Broken USB Port

cmullins -

Meu Problema

Giving a 3 year old a Kindle HDX has worked out well. Until he learned how to climb up and get it off the charger, which he does by just pulling it until he can play with it. The USB charging port wasn't very happy about this and promptly stopped working.

Minha Solução

The Kindle HDX is a bear to get apart - much harder than the instructions indiciate. Getting the first back-panel off was difficult, and seperating the back case from the front was... a challenge. Given that the option was "throw it away, or get it apart" I was willing to break the device to take it apart.

Eventtually I got things apart, got the new part installed, and everything put back together. The Kind will certainly never look the same, but it sits in a leather case anyway so that's fine.

The good news - it worked. Much cheaper than buying a new Kindle.

As an aside, the 54 bit driver kit is very nice - probably the nicest overall precision screwdriver set I've used, and the huge assortment of different bits is very handy.

Meu Conselho

A Youtube video showing how to take things apart would be very helpful. Separating that screen from the case was non-obvious, especially given the sheer amount of force required.

Minor bit, but also include the size on the screws so that I can easily find the right bit. Those screw heads are tiny, and w/o a big magnifying glass I couldn't tell if the bits were too big or too small...
