[title] Heavy Oxidation
[* black] Heat the soldering iron to working temperature and insert tip into the cleaner/tinner compound. Rotate the tip to ensure all surfaces are exposed to the compound.
+[* black] [Pic one: hot iron tip inserted into compound. Pic two: tip rotating in compound. Pic three: Tip removed from compound, looking nice and shiny.]
[* black] Once the tip has been rejuvenated, clean the tip on a brass ball and immediately feed some fresh solder onto the tip. The solder should wet (flow onto) the tip readily.
[* icon_note] Tip tinner is generally a mix of aggressive flux and solder, serving the dual purpose of eating away oxidation whilst tinning the tip. Overuse of tip tinner will reduce the iron's lifespan, as the acid will remove a bit of the iron plating as well.
