Remove Jura Brew unit

  1. Remove Jura Brew unit, Jura Impressa Type C E F opening procedure: passo 1, imagem 1 %32
    • The instructions are suitable for nearly every model of Jura and similar ones e.g. AEG and Krups.

    • Unplug!

    • Remove the water reservoir.

    • On the rear side is an obstacle: four "oval head screws" looking like rivets. You can remove them using a special oval drive bit. They are sold at iFixit with the tool kits as well as some Jura suppliers or somewhere in the internet. Jura wants to keep us out of our own machines!

    • Using an oval head bit you can screw them out. If you haven´t got one you can carefully use pliers. It is a good idea to later change the screws for normal ones.

    • You can even create your own specialty tool

    • Beneath both top side covers are two Torx T15 screws. Remove those. Now lift off the whole top cover. Sometimes it jams and you have to use a bit of force.

    • The side covers must be pushed backwards by about 1 cm. Sometimes this is a little bit difficult to move. If necessary, wedge a plastic opening tool into the gap between the side covers and the front panel. The rear cover can be easily removed.

    • Slide the coffee funnel up and lift it out. It often sits very tight and you have to pull hard until it becomes free.

    • It is often firmly locked in place, it loosens if you wiggle it back and forth a little. It can also be fastened with a screw.

    • Remove the Torx T15 screw from the water inlet.

    • Lift the water inlet and bend it to the side. The hose can remain connected.

    • The brew unit is mounted from the motor side with two Torx T20 screws to the left and right of the motor connection, these are located deep on the inside.

    • Remove the right screw

    • Remove the left screw

    • The brew unit moves up and down in a slide driven by an elongated rack. There are four Torx T10 screws on the slide. The top left screw must remain attached.

    • The screw on the top left must remain.

    • Remove the screw on the bottom left

    • remove the screw on the bottom right and the one in the middle right

Oke so I have a problem. I removed the screw marked blue, and now my machine makes a very weird noise when positioning for brewing. It sounds like a motor that’s somehow jammed. It moves up and down and actually makes a cup of coffee, however the grinds come out as a mud, rather then a puck. Any thoughts?

    Didier Hoogeveen - Responder

You did not disassemble the brewgroup? If so, the issue must be the screws. It' s no problem, if you opened the blue marked screw, it just holds both parts of the gear sledge together. I would remove the brew group again and control the sledge, the blue screw and the three remaining screws: one in the left below the blue one, and two in the lowest(!) holes on the right side. There are empty holes remaining! Turn the big wheel of the brewgroup and proof the function: does it move smoothie and easy? If you opened the brew group, my guess is a broken seal or some other issue.

The lower right screw is completely rusted and the T15 won’t turn it. There’s not enough room to get needle nose in there. Any thoughts on how to remove? I have a Z6.

    Jason Miller - Responder

Puuh, difficult. I never saw this before. (By the way: did you see this guide: Jura Z7 Brühgruppe austauschen). Perhaps it would help, if you first clean the head of the screw and then try to superglue the head of another srew or nail to it?

    • Now the brew unitis free. Tilt it to the bottom but pay attention to the pressure hose. It must be led through an opening. Then push the brew group slightly downward to lift it out of the unit.

    • For further disassembly of the brew unit use this manual JURA Brewgroup Disassembly

Conclusão

Reverse the steps to reassemble your device.

(Note: if necessary, the oval screws can also be unscrewed with combination pliers and then replaced with others)

What position should the piston be in when reassembling? Mine seems to bottom out and then the motor makes a horrible grinding noise. This is after reassembly.

Joakim - Responder

The position is not very important. The distance between the big wheel and top may be about 4 cm. My guess is, that the position of your screws is wrong. Look at the pictures in step 7: the blue one is a machine screw and must not be removed. On the left side remains one screw (yellow) beyond the blue. On the right side are two screws (red), one near of the drainage valve and one above. In the upper region of the brewing unit are two empty holes, maybe you filled them?

VauWeh - Responder

Another possibilty is a wrong position of the lower piston. Did you test the function of the brewing unit by turning the white gear a complete cycle? Does it move smoothly?
