Why is my machine so loud?

My Keurig Elite is great, except that it makes a very loud brewing noise that has gotten worse and worse over time. Is there anything I can do to make it not so noisy? My household's members tend to brew coffee early in the morning when at least one person is asleep.

Besides the noise, does it still brew okay? Any other issues yet?

Mine does/did the same thing, I believe mine was caused by hard water. I followed Keurig's instructions on "de-scaling" and it helps a bit.

I de-scaled mine too and the noise doesn't quiet down until the water level is low.

This unit started rumbling and sounding extremely loud a month after we purchased it! It works fine but is extremely noisy. We use RO water only, have cleaned it and nothing changes this rattling noise. Other Keurig units in the past never sounded like this.

por

My two Elites are both very noisy, one worse than the other. I cleaned them and de scaled them but no improvement. I finally replaced one with a new 2. 0 which I love the look of....so far so good but disappointed in the old versions.

por

We are on our 4th replacement and it's still noisy-K55

por

The link above is dead there is a generic descaling article a couple of pages down below.... Search inside this page (ctrl f) for "David Carnor " takes you right to it.

The first on market models are inherently noisy because of the pump, not the heating block. Ours was a gift, and was just introduced to market. It is, and always has been, noisy when pumping, not when heating water. There's nothing you can do about this except buy a later version that has this issue worked out. This is why, as a rule, I do not buy first generation products. Descale, when it is needed, or indicated by some Keurig models, but do not overdo it. Using expensive, dollar a bottle, bottled water is silly, unnecessary, and actually adversely affects the flavor of good Arabica coffee. Tap water is best.

Where do you pay $1.00 for a bottle of water???

por

It's more than a dollar in gas stations, in Va....and people still buy it..!

Went to a Boat race,it was 4.

Can get 24 at Homedepot for 3.

por

Using dollar a bottle, bottled water may clog your Keurig! drinking water often is bottled with spring water, which contains minerals, which people like the taste of, but is the bane of water heating devices! The heating of the water concentrated the minerals until the concentration of the minerals, precipitate out of the water and along all the passages in your expensive coffee maker's water injection needle that puts the water into the coffee pod. Where it mixes for a few seconds with the coffee grounds and drains out the bottom of the cup through the hole pierced into it when you placed it into the the machine.

Once the passages get too clogged, you either get a Descale error light, which is detected by electrical performance changes in the heater, or by slow or total clogging of the output of the pump, which gives you that pumping up sound then the big click as the pressure climbs too high to push the water into the K Cup! Then you are doing the paper clip needle clean out routine to get it flowing again

Just bought K560 and it's so loud, wondering if this is normal for these brewers. This is also our first Keurig and don't know what to expect. Love all the features and how easy it is to use, just wish the noise didn't sound like my machine is about to break!

Tons of comments about the noise. Has anyone solved it?

por

I just received my K-Compact that I ordered for my office and I just did the test run and it is very noisy. I have a Keurig at home (different model) but it is quiet. I got on here to make sure the noise is normal before considering returning it. The noise doesn't really bother me as long as there isn't something wrong with it and it's a sign that it's about to break.

Any solution Jeanne? I just bought one and brewed my first cup. Very noisy

Mine is noisy too. Also compact

I've decaled my machine, used filtered water, used bottled water and still the noise persists. It's sad that they can make such a great coffee machine with such an annoying problem. Otherwise, I love it!!

I just bought my K575 plus and the pump is so loud the whole time brewing does your do that?

por

My keruig 2.0 is loud also. It wasn't until about the 30th or so cup. Grinding motor noise like it is breaking. Annoying to say the least.

por

Same problem, this is my second 2.0 machine, just purchased the 575 and it is VERY loud.

por

My K575 plus, which I just bought, squeaks like the pump needs oil at the end of the brew cycle. Not like it's drawing in water but like at the end when it's finishing pushing it out into the cup. Does it for hot water or kcup. Is this normal or should I send it back?

por

Bought my 2,0 for a Christmas to replace my first one which was the single cup Keurig machine from Sam's Club,. This 2,0 is fine in looks but runs like a LOUD train when brewing the water and brewing the coffee. It wakes up the house, also not sure the water gets as hot as it did initially. Only has less than 30 days. This is Totally not acceptable. I am returning it today to Sam's Club. Such a horrible mistake and waste of my time,. Expected more from Sam's, I hate this coffee maker. Disappointed!!!

I have always used bottled water , buy it by the gallon - 99 cents . I found delicous spring water hsd it tested

and was pure and great water . So I started using it in my Keurig and it started making all this grumbling and popping noise when it brews . So , I descaled it and went back to botttled water , and it is fine now . Must

be the spring water is loaded with minerals , and that is good for you , but not the Keurig .

Looks like everyone is trying to blame the water - but if it makes horrible loud noises when brewing, as mine does, it appears more a manufacturing defect than an "operator" problem. I would guess Keurig changed factories and the new one is using inferior parts. And this has apparently been going on for a couple of years, so it is apparent the manufacturer is in no hurry to fix it. Once we decide to NOT replace our Keurig coffee maker and hit the manufacturer in the pocket book - they will start paying attention.

I agree. I follow all of their instructions, recommendations and suggestions, to no avail. It's finally starting to have other issues and I'll be doing just as you said and replacing mine with a Cuisinart. My husband has the old one we replaced with this Keurig and it still works fabulously.

With so many complaints over the same issue, what does Keurig plan to do to satisfy its customers? The noise is totally unacceptable, and I'm tired of having to explain the grating, grinding noise to my guests. This is unfortunate because the Keurig coffee machine process makes great coffee. Keurig, are you listening?

Well they’ll do nothing to address the issue if people keep buying the machines. Why should they? The bottom line is all that matters. Hit them where it hurts.

Bought a new Keurig model 475, noisy and annoying. Get this: I called tech support and held the phone to the noisy machine. The rep said that it should not make the noise she heard and promptly put in an order to send me a new one, at which time I should remove a certain vital part from the faulty one and send it back to them. PS, the new makes the same noise. I give up.

I have a K40 and a B60. The K40 is whisper quiet but the the B60 sounds like it's going to shake itself apart when it's drawing water in from the reservoir. I de-scaled it by running a pint of white vinegar through it, which helped a little bit. I also swapped the k40's all plastic drip tray onto the B60 in place of its tray, which has a stainless steel insert. That dropped it another decibel or two but it's still pretty loud. I'm tempted to either replace the main pump motor or figure out some way to dampen the vibration like maybe rubber grommets on the the motor's mounting bracket.

Update: I tightened all the screws on the bottom plate and noticed two tabs on the bottom at either side of where the drip tray meets the main body of the machine. They are long enough on the B60 that they touch the countertop, while on the B40 they have enough clearance to slip a knife blade under them. They don't seem to serve any other purpose than to help position the bottom plate before screwing it into place, so I filed them back a little and put some stick-on silicone feet just aft of them to further mitigate--but unfortunately not eliminate--the noise.

por

Another Update: I found a piece of foam last night and placed it under the B60 last night to help absorb the vibration. When I made my coffee this morning, I found that it dampened the noise considerably. It's still much noisier than the K40, but it's at a level I can live with. I just cut the foam to fit the contours of the machine's base. My only concern is wether the foam is blocking the air vents on the base and perhaps causing excessive heat build-up. I only make two cups a day, so that shouldn't be a huge problem but I may still cut out air channels where the vents are located.

so glad to see others with b60 have this problem! got mine free from someone on facebook and i kinda see why lol but i’ve run multiple cycles of straight vinegar and the quantities still come out less than what they should be. considering tossing it….no initial investment ugh not sure what else to do?!

Above all it's one of only a handful few Keurig machines that accompany the Quiet-brew highlight which guarantees you can blend your most loved espresso in harmony. there are many reasons behind that your Keurig machine produces noise.

Bought the Keurig K-compact today because I wanted to downsize and I also love the turquoise color because it matches my new kitchen.

I had a bigger version for 2 years. No noise.

This new one sounds like a chainsaw. Horrible!

I emailed Keurig. I really don’t want to return it to Walmart. What a pain. If the noise is telling me it’s going to Not work soon then I want to exchange it.

If it keeps making the noise but I know it won’t break down I really don’t care.

Well let’s see what happens. I will come back and post what Keurig tells me.

UPDATE:

19 minutes later and I get an email saying they have videos that show you how you can fix the problem. Ummmm I want to know why and If I have to worry about it. So I’m just going to return the machine and see if the new one works. If not, then I will just get a different brand online

Yesterday I purchased my 6th Kuerig Original style coffee pot because my last one sounded like a freight train. I also on the Kuerig VUE and have had no problems with loud noises. The K cups for the VUE are not available anywhere and they are quite expensive on the Kuerig website. I'm not sure why, but the pot that I bought yesterday sounds so loud when it draws the water into the reservoir that it wakes my sleeping family. Every Kuerig that I have owned, with the exception of the VUE, has gone belly up around 3 years. Should I keep my latest one or haul it back to Walmart?

So…. I just added a little bit of olive oil to the inlet between the water reservoir and the machine… and it's… quiet…. How come nobody else has ever thought of this after all these years? Enjoy your quiet morning... Shaun Greenslade

I don't understand what you mean.

Where did you add oil?

The only 'inlet' is where the water actually goes in.

Wouldn't that add oil to your coffee?

How much/little did you put in?

Had one given to me as a gift. It worked ok for about a year and then it rebelled. Lots of noise. Should have done what sponge bob and patrick did. Keep the box and throw away the contents. But, I solved my problem. I took it out to the woods and used it for target practice. Wow. Do I feel better.

Descaling and running bottled water to resolve the growling noise when pumping water is like wetting yourself in a dark suit. It gives you a warm feeling for a while and no one will notice. Seriously, the problem is defective design by Keurig. They have littered the internet with propaganda about descaling or putting the machine on a soft surface, or even replacing it as if it is your fault because you bought the model you bought. I don't recall ever seeing a Keurig commercial in which the machine made a loud growling noise, have you? No, it is THEIR problem not ours. As others have said, "vote with your feet" Go buy someone else's machine and maybe Keurig will start taking better care of their customers.
