Can my early 2008 MPB support 8 GB of memory under Lion?

Hi, I found on Yahoo a 4 GB memory module compatible with my early 2008 MBP ( check http://www.amazon.com/Komputerbay-DDR2-S... ).

Can I put 2 of these modules in my MBP running Lion OS X and get 8 GB of RAM in my machine ? Or is it limited to 6 GB ? Many thanks

Solução escolhida

If you have the A1260 2.4- 2.6 machine, yes you are limited to 6 GB.

Standard RAM: 2 GB Maximum RAM: 6 GB*

Details: 2 GB installed as two 1 GB modules. No slots free.

*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module.

I own a late 2007 MBPro (3.1) and recently sucessfully upgraded to 6GB by buying a 4GB bar and swapping it with one of the 2GB bars.

6GB is the maximum for this machine afaik.

You also have to purchase the right kind of ram because not all 4GB bars will work with the older MBP's.

Is it appropriate to inquire on this thread which is the right kind of ram? I am currently @2 x 1gb and starving for the most I can get. Albeit 2 + 4 or even just 2 + 2. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks kindly.
