Philips 55PUS7394 No Picture! but sound, ambilight and backlight work

Hi iFixIt Community.

My 2019 Philips 55PUS7394/12 Flatscreen TV suddenly started booting without a picture. No Logo, just a black screen for a few minutes, then it worked perfectly for hours.

I have working sound, ambilight and backlight, so nothing on the screen.

The starting time without a picture got longer and longer, till it went completely dark.

Since most of the time, the issue is related to the t-con board (at least what i read so far), i went ahead and ordered one and replaced it, without success.

After a week without power, the picture appeared again after a minute or so, but just once. But since it worked fine that time, i guess the logic board or t-con board are fine, right?

Could the issue be related to the power supply? I could not locate an blown or bloated capacitors. On all 3 boards i could not see any damage, coloration or burned out parts.

I am grateful for any advice.

Thanks in advance

@cps9323 let us know how you figured out that the backlight is still working (important!!!! Philips uses flaky backlight strips). Since you do have sound, the issue will be related to either the mainboard or the panel itself.

TRy this. Disconnect the power cable, disconnect the Left ribbon cable from the t-con board to the driver (buffer board), reconnect the power cable. Turn the TV on. Note the results. Next, turn your TV off, disconnect the power cable, reconnect the Left ribbon cable to the buffer board, disconnect the Right side ribbon cable, reconnect the pweorcables and restart your TV. Note the results. Next you want to take a couple well focused pictures of your boards with your Question. that way we can see what you see. Adicionar imagens a uma pergunta já existente

Hi oldturkey03.

Thanks for the quick response.

Well i assume that the backlight is working by seeing the light, through holes in the back and also when i turn on the TV the screen is illuminated. Tested this in a dark room, screen goes from black to a dark greyish glow all over. I've also did the flashlight test, to verify if i can see hints of the picture, but there is nothing.

I disconnected the left and right ribbon cable, as you suggested, with the result that each disconnected side half of the screen was completly white. On the other side of the screen stayed dark, no picture.

I've added photos of each board, which i hope are detailed enough.

Thank you again

@cps9323 I would try a new main board (if it can be acquired for a decent price) and after that you may need to try a Tape -off and see if that makes a difference. Just to verify that the power board is okay. Measure the voltages from the power board to the Main board. See if they correspond with the voltages that are printed on the power board.

@oldturkey03 I've measured the voltages and they correspond to the values on the board. I will look for a replacement board. What do mean exactly with a Tape-off?

Thanks, i will give it a try.

Hi ! I have this exact same problem on the exact same model too, i don’t do repair myself, do you think that it is interesting to repair in a specific tv repair shop, or to Just swap it for a new one ?

Thank you in advance for your reply !

@kingwhole same issues where the backlight still comes on but you have no image? If so, give the tape off a try and see if that makes a difference. If you know how to use a screwdriver and can follow the directions from those videos I linked to, there should be no reason to spend your hard earned money on a repair shop. The only real repair to that would be a replacement of the display. Of course, there are specialty repair services that have the right tools for replacing the driver boards. Most of those repair may be more expensive than a new TV :-( Give the tape -off a try and see what the results are. It' a bit tedious but it is still fairly simple. You got lots of help from this community.

Thank you, mate. I do highly appreciate your message of Hope on it.

Yes, at first backlight was about a few seconds then the image popped.

Since a month or two, only backlight on and black screen but audio on (i have an Apple TV connected on),

And since a week, it takes about 30mn to get screen back, and today, absolutely no image After 2 hours the tv on.

I thought about too many hdmi connected on or something else, tried ti plug out wait the replug it on.

It is an absolutr shame as i do use it from 3 years now.

I’ll give it a try right Quick, and let you know here about.

I’ll take my time to do so.

@kingwhole when you do have a black screen, check it with a flashlight. Turn the TV on where you have the audio. Then use a flashlight and angle the light at the screen on different areas. you might make out some shadows or see a slight grey color. See if you can make out the screen with that. If so, it is your backlight. Philips use(d) some pretty bad backlight strips.

Backlight Works i guess : screen have a light halo on, and the black screen that is dark blue-ish with the effect of light on it.

I Just tried the flashlight and no image seen on screen
