I would try and replace the power button flex and check the actual mechanical power button. Since iFixit does not yet have a specific guides for this, use something like this guide Moto G6 Plus Screen Replacement and check atep 34 It;ll show you how to remove it from the frame.

The power button flex is readily available at many online stores.

While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit.
