A1181 Inverter Replacement or Screen Replacement?
My Core 2 Duo has a problem with the back light, whereby the back light may work for a small amount of time, but will then turn off, regardless of if I have moved the position of the display or not. The only way that I can get it come back on again is by closing the lid of the laptop, then opening it again, and even then once it has gone off once most likely it will just turn on again for a second or two and then turn itself off again.
From other posts that I have read it seems that most people suggest changing either the inverter, the inverter cable or both, therefore I have bought both of these items. I replaced the inverter first as this seemed like the easiest thing to do, and for about a day or so the back light seemed to come on fine, but its back to its old trick of turning on for an intermittent amount of time, then turning off.
I had thought about changing the inverter cable, though I don't think that this is the cause of the problem, as the back light will turn off randomly, without moving the angle of the screen (and therefore the cable) at all, so I don't think it is worth the hassle of changing this.
I wondered if the inverter that I have bought is also faulty, though it should have been a new genuine Apple part and had the same model number as the original (607-1961). Changing the inverter did seem to temporarily fix the problem and even now it seems to have improved the amount of time that the screen stays on for compared to the old inverter. Or maybe I should buy a new screen and replace that? This problem sounds similar to the one posted here (Backlight works for a split second, inverter or inverter cable?) so this makes me think I should now replace the screen and assume the replacement inverter works correctly.
If I did buy a replacement screen, all of the online retailers have a 90 day returns policy, therefore I feel that I should be able to return it if it is not needed, however it would be very useful if anyone can tell me if I should be able to test the screen connected to the laptop without fully fitting it first?
Thanks.
