My 3DS's top screen does not turn on, but the bottom one works fine

I've had the device for quite some time so it may be a problem of age, but I decided I'd rather give a shot at fixing it after I saw the new prices for them on eBay. The 3D feature is still noticeable and you can see differences when moving the slide, but the top screen still remains black no matter what program I am on and how many times I charge it or restart it. I believe it could be an issue related to wires connecting the screen and the general console after barely skimming Google, but I'm unsure what to do.
