My Blackberry 9780 powers on but I get the message "app error 606"

So I turn it on, it powers up with no porblem. However just before I get the main screen I get a message "app error 606"

I haven't drop it or done anything that I think would damage it...

Chris, from blackberry.com "app error 606 is thrown when a java process quits." First troubleshooting step is a hard reset (remove the battery while the power is on, and wait 30 seconds before putting the battery back).If the error persists, upgrade the OS if possible. If you are already running the latest OS, reload the OS. Here is one site to explain this better and here is a list of providers where you should get you OS. One more site to help you out. Thank you for the tip... I looked before on their website but it didn't give that much detail like you just did. I'll give it all a try and see.

thanks to oldturkey03..I faced the same problem today (app error 606). when I saw your suggestion to Christ, I quickly reload the OS and it worked! I'm over the moon, my bb is like 'brand new' ...I just lost my list of contacts but its fine as long as my bb works again..

My blackberry is coming up with app error 606. I done a hard reset and it still came up, i have also tried turning it on in safe mode but it came up with 'Uncaught exception, Java lang'. My blackberry wont turn on what so ever so i cant exactly do a OS upgrade i have done everything even connected it to desktop and the desktop is not connecting to it, Helpppp

Instructions for installing on the 9800:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.

2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!

3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.
